In chapter 3 of To Kill a MockingBird by Harper Lee, the author dismantles
Jem prejudiced ideas concerning sexism. In chapter 3 Jem was talking to
Scout about the idea that girls are hated because of them always
imagining. “I was not sure but Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls
always imagined things, that's why other people hated them so…” (Lee 54).
This quote shows how Jem was being prejudiced towards girls because he
was passing judgement on a certain group of people (girls), and wasn’t
showing empathy towards them and wasn’t realizing that everyone is their
own person and you can’t judge a group of people based on stereotypes.
In conclusion, Jem has the same views for every girl and Scout is not
happy about that. Through this Scout is made aware of the prejudiced
thoughts towards Walter.

In chapter 3 of To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, the author dismantles Jems prejudiced ideas concerning sexism. In
chapter 3 Jem was talking to Scout about the thought that girls are hated because of how they are always imagining and making
false realities, “I was not so sure, but Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that's why other people hated
them so, and if I started behaving like one I could just go off and find some to play with” (Lee 54). This quote shows how Jem was
being prejudiced towards girls because he had an opinion on all girls and that all girls are the same in his opinion. This also shows
that he doesn’t think highly of girls and that they might be lower than guys in his mind. This is an example of sexism because he is
using the fact that just being a girl is worse than a boy and that boys are higher than girls in his eyes.
In conclusion, Jem was sexist towards Scout and all girls in general.
