Learning Objectives

Lesson Structure

Introduction (5 min)

• Play video segment (0:02 - 0:59, twice).

• Students complete a text gap-fill activity based on listening.

• Correction and discussion of answers.

Activity 2 – Listening Comprehension & Discussion (10 min)

• Watch the video segment (1:12 - 2:18).

• Students answer the question: "What examples are used to explain Pi?"

• Discuss answers: bike wheel, swimming pool.

• Reinforce vocabulary and comprehension orally.

Activity 3 – Listening Challenge (5 min)

• Play the video segment (2:48 - 3:00).

• Students write down as many digits of Pi as they can hear.

• Quick oral feedback: "How many numbers did you get?"

Today we’d like to introduce a very famous number found in all circumferences and circles you see around you.

It’s number ……. . Number ……. Is a mathematical constant which indicates the relation between the perimeter and the diameter of the circumference but how can we describe this relation ?. It’s about fitting the diameter as many time as possible into the perimeter of the circumference. Let’s look here : one two three and a little bit more.

That’s it. We can fit three diameters into the circumference and a small part .14. That’s why we know that pi equals 3.14.

This week, with my pupils, we worked with the book THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR. Before Easter holidays, we had learned the days of the weeks with the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36n93jvjkDs&t=5s

And they created a mini-book and repeated with simple sentences the story.

We studied the cycle of a butterfly with very simple sentences like The egg becomes a caterpillar. The caterpillar becomes a cocoon. The cocoon becomes a butterfly. The butterfly lays eggs.

They were so proud to explain in English the cycle.

First, I'm thinking about learning the song Incy Wincy spider to introduce the vocabulary of the weather.

I'm looking for simple materials about the cycle of the water.

Grammar: second conditional: What would you do if you found someone doing this?

Conditional chain: student A: If I found someone doing this, I'd report them to the police.

Student B: If I reported them to the police, I'd.... (And the chain continues until the last student.)
