A SHORT SUMMARY OF THE TEXT

Granny is in denial. She lays in bed saying nothing's wrong with her, orders any doctors that come her way to leave. Even though she doesn't believe anythings wrong with her she still prepares for death. In fact, she prepared for death a long time ago, just about 20 years prior when she thought the end of her life was coming. One of Granny's daughters is named Cornelia, who is often mentioned throughout the short story. Granny very often imagined things, she would think back to times in the past like the time her soon to be first husband George never showed on their wedding day. This scarred her. She imagines Hapsy, one of her other daughters greeting her with a baby in her hands. Granny's husband who had passed was named John. She loved him, she would always think back to when they took care of their daughter's together and likes to think about how proud he would be knowing she has continued to raise them so well.

MOST SIGNIFICANT QUOTE AND IT'S MEANING

"What does a woman do when she has put on the white veil and set out the white cake for a man and he doesn't come? She tried to remember. No, I swear he never harmed me but in that. He never harmed me but in that. . .and what if he did?" This quote was found in paragraph 29. I found this to be such a significant quote because you can feel the hurt she was feeling while saying this. This quote stuck out to be above all the rest. You don't have to hear her voice to notice and understand the sadness and pain she went through during that time.

OBSERVATION ABOUT AUTHOR'S CRAFT AND STRUCTURE

Katherine Anne Porter's craft and structure was your basic craft in structure you see in many short stories told in past times. The way she broke up the paragraphs made the story easier to read. She did a great job with building up the character of Granny herself as well. Granny's personality and characteristics were very clear to me as a reader.
