An informal science learning that I would conduct in my future science class is the Field Trip to a Forest. Students have the opportunity to travel to a forest and able to explore the beauty of nature by themselves.

The first reason is that this real-world learning will increase students’ interest and motivation in learning. A field trip to a forest provides a new learning environment and offers an opportunity for students to learn something new that teachers cannot effectively teach in the classroom. For example, students can explore the forest ecosystem as well as the flora and fauna by practicing the skills of observing and recording.

Besides, this natural-based learning will enhance the information taught by a teacher because it provides a non-stressful learning environment for students. Moreover, a field trip to a forest allows the students to understand nature and love nature. Therefore, it will encourage the students to protect the plants and animals.

For example, I will conduct pendulum simulations in my science classroom to illustrate the effect of mass and length on the period of oscillation on the simple pendulum. Thus, students will be easier to understand by observing and linking the result of this activity with the theory/concept of energy. Besides, it can generate highly personalized interests since it is more realistic/ make sense of the natural and physical world.

These science-designed spaces can provide rich sources of science learning experiences that can never be found elsewhere in school or at home. When the students visit these places, they have the opportunities to relate the school learning experiences to the physical world. It is especially important for the students to realise that what they have learnt in school is also applicable in the real world context.

I would conduct a day trip for my science class where we will attend a science sharing seminar and a science café.

- Science seminar can consists of booths and talk that share experience or ventures in the science genre. This way students not only learn science in terms of theoretical through the talks but get some hands on experience on seeing other people's creation and ventures that they have succeeded. Through the seminar students will also see how fascinating it is to make a breakthrough in the world of science which might help to nurture their curiosity on what they can make or learn from it.

- I also picked adding the science café in this trip because it is a new adventure for the students just to relax and calmly talk about science among their friend while listening to the topic discussed on that day but they can also talk to the people around and gather more information. They can also choose to just read the books around. I believe this will help to show how science is not boring and not something that can be created in a lab or just by reading books for hours. This also will give an awareness on how science has no age limit as the café will have people from different age and career. Moreover this will help work on their social interactions.

I decided to combine the both event as just exposing in science seminar might make the same scene for the students and the science café might be a new refreshing idea and a reminder that not all event with science is boring.

Firstly, I will let my students to visit the ready-made science programme in Minecraft named "Circulatory System" so they can see the structure of a heart and recognize each of the chambers. Then, students are required to build a model of a heart that is connected to the lungs and other body tissues and showing the direction of blood flow in the heart model.

Benefits of Using Minecraft for simulation/ virtual visit:
1. However, Minecraft has a feature of three-dimentional world, so students can easily see the whole structure of heart and the blood vessels involved in blood circulation and transportation in an easier way.

2. Students can practice their psychomotor skill in Minecraft to move their own avatar while visiting the 3D model of heart and while building their own model.

3. Now, students are required to work in a group and explore the 3D solar system by themselves. They will be asked to observe and identify different planets, the moon, and other celestial objects based on their properties such as position, size, spectral, and mass.
The first reason I choose the Space Engine game is that it will enhance student comprehension of the topic. Space Engine will provide a better visual memory of the celestial system for students who explore different celestial bodies by themselves. Next, teaching through games can easily engage the attention of students in class. Students tend to be attracted by new stimuli such as games. So this will make students actively participate in the teaching process.

DIGITAL GAMES
Science games and activities provide exciting ways to learn about how the world works. Add in a learning game element and your students are sure to have fun while learning about science. If I become a teacher, I will conduct a digital game for my science classroom. Digital educational games are software applications which combine both the characteristics of video games and those of computer-based games. They aim to design enticing learning experiences that successfully correspond to specific learning aims and results. There are many science games through online or application. For example, https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/ , https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/games and any online games. These games are organized by subject-type, which includes math, healthy habits, science, reading, and teamwork.
In digital learning games, students remotely interact with the game environment by touching a display, using a keyboard, mouse, or voice control. They provide rich content, engagement and motivation, harnessing subject knowledge and a range of skills in the players. Digital learning games combine present day technology allowing a whole new level of interaction, collaboration and a unique learning experience. It is very interactive learning to do in classroom.

I would like to organize a trip to the Planetarium or Natural History Museum.

The reason is because both places provide abundance resources that will increase students' interest on science knowledge. As a student myself, I was very interested about astronomy. To be able to know interesting facts about the universe and to see the spacesuit would be an unforgettable experience. Besides that, Natural History Museum exhibits many types of fossilized or preserved flora and fauna in their actual size. This trip would be an eye-opening experience because students can visualize their imagination about these flora and fauna. They will know more about nature and eventually will appreciate nature more.

At the end of this trip, I would like to ask some of the students to share their experience and what they have learnt from the trip. Needless to say, if implemented, the trip will be an unforgettable experience in their life.

Through a variety of educational experiences in the science discovery center, it piques the interest of students to science and stimulates their imagination. Besides, it's a place where students can learn about science via minds-on activities or hands-on exploration of exhibits and installations they can hear, see, touch, and otherwise engage with. Students will experience science like never before in the class and they will dig deep into fun learning about science.

The informal science learning that I want to conduct in my science class is by teaching science with film or short drama because this kind of approach is more attractive and and can make students to apperciate sciences. For instance, if I’m teaching a Chemistry, I would suggest my students to use clips from Star Trek or Pirates of Caribbean because the clips teach concept of redox, black holes and thermonuclear reactions. Hence, this type of apporach can help students to learn facts and can be an expert students since they are inspired with the movie.

As an example, watching SpongeBob can help students to understand the biodiversity of aquatic life. Each character in SpongeBob is an aquatic life and we can compare the non-fiction with the fictional organisms. This can help students to understand them better and at the same time have fun learning the topic. SpongeBob is very funny and their characteristics in the series resembles their original species characteristics. As an example, Patrick the Star is a starfish who acts as a dumb sea creature as it does not have a brain. In real life, starfish do not consist of a brain. These simple information might help student to remember so that they would not forget. This will be the key in informal learning. They can be self directed and can digest some information themselves

Compare to museum, students are more looking forward to Petrosains as Petrosains focus on game-based learning where students can play while getting input. Students are explosed to different simulations where they can have hands-on practical session, after goinng through the explanation of science. This will enhance their understanding. Since students can play while learning, they will be active to sign up for the trip. The trip provide a enjoyable learning to students that increase their interest in learning. Lastly, I will ask students to share what they have learn during the trip and how the knowledge can be applied in daily life. Sharing can strengthen their memories about the knowledge.

Topic: 3.0 Nutrition (Biology Form 2)

Informal Learning Activity: Let’s Vlog

1. Students are asked to make a ‘Day in the life’ vlog and film what they eat throughout the day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks etc.).

2. In their video, the students have to identify the different classes of food present in their meals (carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, fibre, minerals, water etc.) and also the calorific value of the food (eg. show the food wrappers).

3. Ask the students to play their videos in class.

4. Discuss if the classes of food identified were accurate.

5. Discuss if the meals shown were balanced based on the calorie count, food pyramid and portion size.

6. Ask the students to share their opinions on how to plan and maintain a healthy diet based on their knowledge from the topic ‘Nutrition’.

Explanation: This activity will allow students to understand the relevance of this topic in daily life and to understand how learning this information will be beneficial throughout their lives. It is also fun to do as students get to use their creativity to make the video. This activity is also manageable as it only requires students to have access to a smartphone, which is fairly common nowadays and does not require additional expense on their part. If this activity cannot be done face-to-face, it is also applicable in online classes, as students can also be asked to upload their videos to YouTube or any other social media platform and discuss the contents of each video via Google meet, Webex or Whatsapp. Overall, it is a fun activity that involves students seeing the value of science outside the classroom, while being affordable and simple to carry out, not requiring any additional cost or paperwork for the teacher or time and stress for the students. It also achieves the goal of educating students on how to have a healthy lifestyle.

Another example would be if the lesson is regarding water, I will bring the students to the nearby water treatment plant, and also to allow students to clean up the river, the nearby neighborhood drains or the school’s drain. Other than to educate the students on what is water molecule and its importance, I would also like to create awareness among the students on the importance for clean water and to keep the river clean. Apart from that, if the lesson is about nutrition, I can collaborate with the school canteen operator to allow my students to have hands-on learning on the food cooked as well as to observe and determine the classes of food.

These outdoor and community-based learning activities conducted in a science class is cost-effective, less planning and able to achieve the learning objectives. Such learning activities help generate students’ curiosity and make science class to be active and out of the box rather than the standard way of teaching and learning in class. To be honest, after that I am really eager and enthusiastic to explore more about Science. I know this is also applicable to other students. Study tours can attract students’ attention to learn Science more detail. With this activity, actually we can increase the number of students that want to pursue their studies in Science field !
