We were surprised that only 69% of HE students regarded digital skills as important for their career as the shift towards digital working seems fairly unstoppable. In a few years everything will be digital so maybe we're in a transitional phase....

Also our students have had problems with canvas, so the stats in the first paragraph seemed a bit high, but then we don't know what they are comparing it to...

We have found that misinterpreting /misunderstanding technology can often be an excuse for not being motivated: i.e. I couldn’t locate the assignment on canvas therefore have not completed it

We also think that a use of technology in class is hugely subjective and dependant on the content, activity and nature of the learning objectives

There’s also often an element of bridging the skills gap.. some students may be advance in certain processes when others may not have any experience in these areas.

Students usually use digital tools but it is not always applicable due to health and safety regulations inside lessons such as laboratory sessions, also it can cause distractions. The information they can find can be substandard.

Higher education are likely to use google scholar because they are able to target a specific subject while undergrad are more likely to use google search.

Potential problems with bringing own devices including potential delays to teaching and inaccessibility. Could use canvas to alert them to what is needed in sessions but no clear way to get around the fact that some people simply will not have their own devices.

Disciplining: we all use our phones as a hybrid of leisure, personal life and work - it’s hard to ask students to bring their phones and therefore other aspects of their lives into an environment of learning.

Anonymity of voting systems - everyone having a voice and contributing to the conversations. Could use voting to democratically decide what they want to be covered.

Wifi is absolutely essential and should be better - if someone has no Wifi at home.

Apps mining data - data of students not being used to sell them things? None of us have come into contact with questions of safety online as staff members or students really, relying on technology exposes you more to it.
