Junichi Masuda the composer of the music says that he tries to keep some elements the same such as the Pokémon center music or the music in the main towns whilst evolving other elements. The music tends to be 'simple and memorable' but the original game music has been adapted from the original games to create new songs and sounds to create feelings of tension etc. For instance, the music in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire incorporates a Timpani (a type of drum) to create a new, unique feel to the games.
