Consequences
The casteless are forced to do the dirtiest jobs. Some Dalit children are sent to the sewers to clear away the sludge with their bare hands. They are not allowed into the temples. In school, they are put in a corner in the classroom, and are not allowed to talk to or eat with children from other castes. Obviously, these children grow up with the knowledge that they are unwanted.

Their status at the bottom of society is seen as evidence that they have done something wrong in an earlier life, and now they are being punished for it.
