I think learning about critical theory and exploring its lenses could be very useful. Critical theory allows us to unpack texts in a way that considers how different social, cultural, and political contexts might shape the way in which a text is received and understood. It can also help us to consider how our own perspectives and experiences might influence our interpretations of a text. Ultimately, critical theory can help us to gain a deeper understanding of texts and the contexts in which they are situated.- mridula

I did use the guiding questions to view the text differenlty. When I read the text for the first time before I read the guiding questions, I only read the content that the book had. When I thought about the reason the author would write certain things, I started to notice intersting things. Since an author would usually only write about topics which interest him or he has a connection with, Dr. Seuss must have an interest in utilizing his imagination. One's imagination always has a starting point and in this book it is mischevous playfulness. These two words are also a part of the author's personality, so it seems fit that his book shares the same charecteristics.

- Visvajit Murali Block 7

The cat in the hat is a children's book with a weird story.

Rereading the story has lead me to realize the various interpretations that can be taken on the book, specifically with connecting it to real world issues. I would consider my previous view of the main character, the cat, to be rude and disrespectful. However, with the perspective of relating it to the real world, I would say I view the character as an organization, person, or government that takes advantage of those who are without much say (such as the kids) or who cannot take action (the fish as he is limited to the bowl).

Reading and interpreting The Cat in the Hat again using the questions my group was assigned helped my understanding of this fairytale because it made me remind myself of the previous knowledge I had on it. By having the previous knowledge on this I was able to think more in depth and more critically about what my questions were asking me. It helped me to think an extra step since I already had some knowledge on this fairytale. - Maddie Wilson, Block: 2

Yes , using the guided questions helped lead me to view this book in a different way because the last time I read this book was in elementary school when I would just read it for fun. Now that I am older and have more knowledge I was able to use my critical thinking skills to be able to see this book from a new perspective that I was not able to do before. - Maddie Wilson, Block:2

So far I have really liked applying critical theory because I think that it helps me to really stop and think about what I am learning. I have to dive deeper into the topics that we are learning and things we are doing which has helped me to have a better understanding of overall things we do in this class. By practicing those critical thinking skills in this class with these assignment's it has helped me to be able to apply them in my other classes and everyday life. Critical theory has helped me think deeper into things and get better understandings. - Maddie Wilson, Block: 2
