He started a Number of churches and work for the underground railroad. He was the longest presiding bishop in his church. Credited for spreading the faith to blacks and slaves.

He was place in charge of a Regiment in Texas. Promoted to general command of the brigade.
Hood has a reputation of a talented field commander. Also Hood was rapidly promoted throughout the confederate army. He graduated from West point. He was injured during Gettysburg. Then he was injured again at Chickamauga. He then died of yellow fever just after his wife and eldest son.
