         <description><![CDATA[<div>This unit's comprehension strategy is compare and contrast. Within this unit, there is a book that talks about the citizenship of ancient times, which includes Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Some of the information in the book discusses the gender roles that the men and women had in ancient times. After the students read this book, they will compare and contrast gender roles of ancient times to today. In addition, students will be able to expand their mindset on gender roles in society. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>        Brainstorm as a class about gender roles in today's society. <br>Compare and contrast, using a T- chart, of what is expected from men and women.  After, using  a Venn Diagram, compare and contrast the gender roles to ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. <br>       At the end have a discussion about gender roles and explain where gender roles come from. </div><ul><li>Where do these ideas come from?</li><li>Is it true that these are just men or women things?</li><li>Why do we think men and women have to do these things?</li></ul><div><br>     This learning activity allows the students to learn about the background information of gender roles and how we think about them in society. Also it allows them to compare and contrast gender roles from ancient times to now. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Learning Activity #2- Videos Clips </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>    Throughout this activity, students will be reviewing movie clips and how they encourage gender roles or how they defy gender roles. <br>The following are the movie clips that they will watch:<br>    - Daddy Day Care<br>   - Captain America <br>    - Zootopia<br>    - Wonder Woman <br>    -  Cinderella  <br>   After the students watch each clip, they will put it in category, encouraging gender roles or defying gender roles and explain why they are in those categories. <br>     Next, as a class, we will discuss what categories the movies were put in and compare and contrast them based on their gender roles. <br>   Finally, the students will come up with different movies that have stereotypical gender roles and movies that defy gender roles. <br>     This learning activity allows the students to watch movie clips and discuss if they encourage gender roles or not. This gives students the opportunity to think about the gender roles that we have in society and how they are even in the media. In addition they are able to compare and contrast the different movies that will be shown throughout this activity. <br>     <br>     The first clip is below: Daddy  Day Care is a movie that has two males that are running a day care. Will they be able to succeed or not? <br>     This clip shows how the women are usually given the role of taking care of the children at home. This movie shows how men can take care of children just as well as women. </div>]]></description>

The students will read through the article and determine how she defied gender roles in today's society. After, we will discuss the article and their thoughts about the article. <br>     Then, I will do a read aloud with the students about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We will discuss how she defied gender roles in society. <br>      Next, the students will research a famous person who has defied gender roles. They will find a article/video and write a paragraph about who the person is and how they defied gender roles. They will use evidence from the article/video of how they defied gender roles. <br>   This learning activity has the students critically thinking about gender roles. Also it is working on their comprehension  and writing skills, which are crucial literacy skills.  </div>]]></description>
