As a child I was a regular viewer of the Disney channel and also grew up with films such as Cinderella and Cars, which happened to be my favourite. I received a DSi as a Christmas present at the age of 5! The DSi was a unique device as it introduced new dfeatures such as a camera whilst also boasting portability. This now allowed video games to be taken anywhere: out in the city, on public transport and friends houses to name a few. This can be seen in a negative light as it allowed more potential time for kids to play, which could cause potential addiction. A new age of gaming was created. Online play went one step further and placed time-space compression on hyperspeed. In-game chat became more common and the servers at Microsoft were strengthened which allowed for more play. Me and my friends jumped from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One and continued to play together. The industry of gaming boomed, with bigger net spends on games allowing for greater graphics. Basketball has a huge online following. "NBA Twitter" is a term for the accounts dedicated to the American basketball league. The web interface for YouTube wasn't so smooth on an iPad at the time, so I downloaded the app and found a plethora of content at the tap of a screen. YouTube is a generational discovery, you can watch content for free without tedious advertisement breaks at any time you want. Imagine double page glossy spreads in GQ or Vogue. Now imagine that for free and these accounts being part of a community. That's aesthetic social media. Cars, clothes, watches, animals, architecture... you name it and its on there. I was aware of this community for a couple of years but only decided to make an account this year. This was a very good decision. I've made lots of friends and found it interesting to search for posts that fit the tone of my page. The above post is of the rapper 'Young Thug'. Dutch photographer Hajar Benjida created @youngthugaspaintings for her school project. Benjida scoured the internet for historical paintings that struck a resemblance of Young Thug. From the electronic notes of Mario Kart to the curated playlists in the NBA series, music was always present. In 2017 I heard 'Represent' via NBA 2K15. This led me to his album Illmatic. For hip-hop fans, Illmatic is seen as one of the greatest ever albums, so it holds a lot of meaning to me. I felt appreciation towards the samples, beats, lyrics and rhyme schemes present in the genre. The cultural references in hip-hop are unrivalled. I've decided to group these together as I downloaded the above apps in quick succession. Right now, I'm most active on Instagram. Twitter is mostly used for news and Facebook only to check up on my family.
