  • At the beginning of WWI women were not allowed to vote.
  • Women were expected to stay home and raise the children.
  • They were also expected to cook and clean.
  • Most women did not have jobs or occupations during this time
  • They were barred from serving in Military combat roles.

  • Once the war began men were sent out to serve the country.
  • Because of this they were no longer available to complete their previous tasks, such as working on farms, manufacturing weapons and tools, or going to work. 
  • These tasks were then left to the women.

  • The woman began to work in manufacturing and agricultural positions.
  • They also worked as nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, translators, and sometimes even on the battlefield. 
  • For the war, they worked as ammunition testers, switchboard operators, and stock takers.
  • Not only were they now expected to keep up the men's work while they were away but also still care for their families and be a morale booster of their loved ones overseas.

  • After the War women were more empowered.
  • Women seemed more capable of doing more than just menial tasks. 
  • Later on, Woman won the right to vote in 1919.  
  • Woman were also able to serve in the war beginning in the last two years of the war. Ranging from 1917-1918.
  • Because of the war, general families were never the same. 
  • Women were able to work, vote and go to war. Not just be housewives.
