Hi! You can just call me Nadia, thank you.

I am a freshman and a nursing major. I was born prematurely and ever since I met the nurse who took care of me and saw what the NICU looked like, I have been interested in nursing which is the main reason why I chose this major.

My career idea for a while has been to become a NICU nurse.

My favorite music artist is Harry Styles and my favorite song of all time is by him which is "Sign Of The Times". I love this song so much because it is a bit slower in the beginning but then it builds up and the climax feels really powerful and I love singing along to it. Another song similar to "Sign Of The Times", which comes to a close second of my favorite song is "Fine Line", also by Mr. Styles for the same reasons.

I am very passionate about the sport of rowing and nursing.

Reactions to Art:

Odilon Redon

colorful, bright

I do love the array of colors that are displayed but it seems that there is a lot going on and maybe hard to analyze and figure out the meaning behind it.

Maya Relief Sculpture

rough, old, dull

I like the detailing in the sculpture all around but I just find it to be boring and I don't like the very little use of color.

Paired Scenes

chaotic, abstract, blue, house

I think this painting is just okay. I love the color blue so I appreciate the amounts of blue being used but I don't really like orange so I feel like although they are complimentary, I personally don't like the colors together. I feel like there's too much going on and it's confusing.

Phantasy II

messy, colorful, dots, lines, abstract

I don't really know how to feel about this painting. I do like the variety of colors used but I don't really understand what's going on. It's very chaotic and random with the dots, lines, and shapes.

The Ride

child, colorful, messay

I like the child drawing but don't like the darkness of the child's face. I like the colors used and how at first glance, the arms looked faded. With that said though, it looks unfinished and slightly messy.

Landscape in the Style of the Old Masters

mountains, nature, real, detailed

I really like pretty much everything about this painting. Even though there's no color, I like the details and it is satisfying to look at, especially with all of the shading and seeing the mountains.

When I first looked at 'Several Circles', I first thought of eyes because of the black circles that were on the colored circles. I imagined the various circles to swirl around the painting since they were so scattered around the painting. Due to the variety of colors used with the black background, it made me feel calm because the mix of the darkness and bright colors don't collide at first sight.

As I have already mentioned, the many colors and shapes that were used in this painting made me think of swirling happening in my mind because of the different clusters all around. When I think deeper into it, with the color choices used I can see a solar system theme in the painting mainly because of the shapes and especially the black background.

I would describe the figures in the painting as abstract and geometric. This is because what stands out to me about their appearance is their faces and poses. Also, how their bodies are outlined using a variety of shapes (circles, ovals, squares, rectangles). What caught my eye are the figures on the right; the green in the figure in the top right corner's face and the way the face of the figure in the bottom right is formed and how she is posing.

When I look at this painting, I feel confused because there is a lot going on with different colors and shapes. Additionally, the figures and their facial expressions are unpleasant and are discombobulated and distorted.

1/25 Picasso Drawing

Before Drawing:

When I first saw Picasso's drawing, I felt confused as to what I was looking at. Then, when I heard we had to "replicate" it per se, I was certainly nervous and very unsure about how it was going to turn out. Speaking of which, I apologize that I did not finish it. I am nowhere near an artist and my drawing skills have never been close to good to be fully honest with you. I felt a little more reassured when I saw we could use solely lines to draw it because I know lines are something I can definitely draw. My expectations were extremely low given my poor drawing abilities but I'm not mad about how it actually turned out. I was concerned with the entire thought process of how this would go because I clearly do not have a lot of confidence in myself and given Picasso's skill level and intricacy compared to mine, I did not have high hopes.

After Drawing:

Finding the center of the paper as a guide, simplifying lines, and shapes 100% helped me during this drawing process. Since I am such a beginner artist, the "center of the page" guide was super helpful. I was able to have an easier time transferring Picasso's drawing into my own work of art due to the fact we drew the guide on both Picasso's drawing and my paper. Because I used mostly lines to draw and it wasn't the most complex technique to use, I found myself getting more confident as I continued to draw because I became more comfortable in my abilities. I believe the main reason I struggled at all to draw this picture was because of my low self confidence in my art abilities paired with Picasso's detailed and confusing looking drawings.

The principles I would use to describe Pollock's painting are pattern and emphasis. Emphasis is the first principle that stuck out to me with the wide variety of colors he used in this painting. He really emphasized the use of the blue lines, yellow, and bright red used. Pattern is used through the repeating blue lines across the painting even when they are angled differently.

I personally don't really like this painting. I don't really see any meaning behind it and it seems very random and chaotic to me. I personally like when there are meaning to paintings which is something this painting lacks.

2/1 Leger Drawing

I think the subject matter or Leger's painting represents the chaos of a town or big city. I say this because in general the entire painting has a lot going on and is very "busy" which reminds me of busy cities. Other parts of the painting that made me come to this realization is the stairs with half of two people's bodies in it toward the center of the painting; it reminds me of stairs leading to a subway. Additionally, above the people and stairs, there is a long white rectangle with dashes which represents a road, which get very populated very quickly in big cities. The final thing that stood out to me was the big incomplete shapes with bright yellow in them which I can see representing lights, either from cars or even buildings.

One element that immediately caught my eye in this painting was the wide use of colors; the bright value of the yellow, dark red, black, and of course the purple. These colors make certain pieces of the painting stand out. As an example, the use of black all around the painting points out specific pieces of the work that Leger may have seen as critical for the audience to see, such as the white letters with the dark black background to the left of the purple pole. A principle of design that came to mind when I saw in this painting is radial and asymmetry. I think they go hand in hand in this scenario because with the level of asymmetry that exists, it somehow creates a sense of balance I think because the colors are evenly distributed throughout. The asymmetry balances out how much is really going on.

I disagree with Duchamp and Rauschenberg because I think art should be something made with the free hand and from the artists own mind and with their own creativity. "Art" made with everyday objects I believe is unoriginal. Creating works starting from scratch is definitely considered art in my eyes in comparison to Duchamp and Rauschenberg's opinions because there is no skill or meaning behind "art" in transforming daily objects.
