The geographical Caribbean is defined as the area washed by the Caribbean Sea, and is often known as the Caribbean Basin. This definition includes most of the Lesser and Greater Antilles, However including some Central and South American Countries.

Geological definition includes all islands situated on top of the Caribbean tectonic plate.

The historical definition of the Caribbean includes the nations that share a similar past. Mainly being the islands that were controlled by the dominant Europeans.

  • Even though some islands of the Caribbean speak different languages stemming from the mother lands who were previously in control, each of these islands have their own version of the language called "Creole"  Which is a broken and a more localized version of the language.
  • Music is unique to the Caribbean, where its been used as self expression since the days  of Slavery to more recent times with some islands creating their own genre, such as , reggae, rapso, calypso, chutney and soca, where the creole language is often included in the lyrics.
  • Music is also a major part of the world renowned Festivals held in the Caribbean, such as Carnival. Carnival is a festival of costume, music and culture which many of the Caribbean islands part take in and which many residence of the islands  travel to the sister isles to parade.
  • Finally, Sport is another Caribbean past time in which was adopted from the Europeans and residence take seriously, especially cricket and football.
