Change starts within; and each and every one of us can make a change. One idea, one sentence, one act of kindness might change the whole world.
I really liked the symbol of a seed (idea) that you plant within yourself or others. Far too often we expect our students to be fast at learning - but if you plant a seed you won't have a fruit immediately; instead you have to be patient, you have to take care of the plant, water it, fertilize it and then one day you will have a fruit and later on even more.
One little seed can have a big impact if you take care of the plant that grows from it: trees offer shade, fruits, wood...
The same applies for an idea: it might help one person or even lots of people; it can be a big success or a catastrophic failure; but there is always a lesson learnt and it had an impact one way or another.
The seed that was planted within me today is to do the task of thinking about "what's in my name" with my students at home. To make them aware how much power is in their name and to embrace their name to make them stronger individuals.

Today I liked especially the conversations during the lessons (and of course the swimming also). Even in our small group there is different practices, values and passions and in discussions you start to see the world through someone else´s glasses.

The most memorable single thing that got me thinking was individuals changing the world. Behind every initiative there is a single person and without her the group of people won´t start the revolution. The group will act on it and eventually change the current situation for better. It´s a reminder not to be afraid of making iniatives or spreading new ideas / improvements!

Today as we talked about global citizenship, I learned that we share the same feelings of guilt about travelling in this age of ecological crisis. I find the concept the ’responsible global citizen’ very accurate and useful. We need to make responsible choices in our daily lives, and as we travel. And I think its is really the daily choices that matter the most, because holidays happen every now and then, but our daily lives are constant.

I also learned that nature acn be ’international’ as well: we humans, and animals alike, have intentionally and unintentionally influenced the flora and fauna of many regions, Guadeloupe included. The change is irreversible, and it saddens me. Yet historically, that is how the Earth has evolved and developed. What will it look like in a million years of time?

Once again, I was impressed by a number today. Up to 350.000 plants can live in symbiosis on a single tree. Protecting and feeding each other. And the comparison Rita made is well chosen: our cultures can really be related to such a symbiosis.

Let's take my country as an example, Germany: After World War 2, a wave of Italian guest workers came to us, later Turks, also as guest workers. We were able to offer them a flourishing economy, they gave us their labour. Then I think of the return of the German Russians, the refugees from Syria and now those from Ukraine. It is not always easy - neither for us as a receiving society nor for the arrivals. But we are growing together: We as an ageing society need workers, the refugees need protection and work.
It would be nice if we could teach our students through our experience how fruitful this mutual give and take can be. And how much our culture is enriched if we allow it. A country like Gouadeloupe is a beautiful example of this - because people here meet as equals. Unfortunately, that is still far from being the case in Germany, as many people are suspicious of the newcomers.
Let's hope that the upcoming generation is more of a global citizen than ours.

Our lesson today in the jungle was very interesting. We started by talking about the importance of being a responsible global citizen. Until this moment I had a preconceived and wrong idea about what globalisation means. I thought that globalisation was negative because it destroyed people's identity. But this is not so, to be a responsible global citizen you must know, value and love your own national identity, your culture and your roots. The example that Rita has given us at the beginning of the morning, how the jungle itself is a "globalised" place where thousands of species coexist in a symbiosis that benefits everyone, has made me rethink my initial idea. As teachers, we must be clear that future generations will live in an even more globalised world and it is our responsibility to show the best way to carry out this healthy globalisation.

I really liked Rita's comparison today between the tree with a large number of plants living in it in complete harmony and symbiosis and what a society should be like. In the case of Maryam and me, we can compare it to our school, where we live together with more than 50 different nationalities.
Regarding the debate we have had today, I think it is very difficult to change the course of climate change but we must do everything we can from our individuality and, of course, work to make our students believe in it and move towards the most sustainable way of life possible.

The fact that even a single person, a single idea, a single question can make a difference (maybe even change the world) was not new to me.
What made me think today was that the global perspective does not only refer to culture (primarily in the sense of different origins), but also intrasocietally to behaviour and communication, f.ex. between female and male persons, younger and older persons, etc.
We are all somehow stuck in our thinking and it is important to counteract and break out of it again and again, so that we (and consequently perhaps others) can again take new paths that correspond to the realities of current developments.
