In Canada, the dance took awhile to develop and only began to gain popularity in the early 2000s. Even in the USA the dance wasn't instantly popular and remained a street dance for many years. Many extremely popular dances you've probably heard of such as the Running Man, the Worm, the Cha Cha Slide, and the Dougie are all Hip Hop. The dance was popular in African and Latin American communities. Hip Hop has no requirement of clothing or makeup. Makeup is not required, neither is clothing. But generally, Hip Hop dancers will wear baggy clothes or anything they have mobility in. Though Hip Hop is not danced at a specific holiday, there is National Hip Hop Day every year on August 11th. As I've mentioned before, dancers usually tell a story or express feelings in their dance.
