I learned about several new websites, apps, and products that I can bring back to my classroom right now. I love the idea of having my classes do scavenger hunts with Goose Chase over a period of several days. I feel like I was able to get to know my peers at LO better as well - we traded tons of ideas. I also got to hear Jennifer Gonzalez speak about pedagogy - she is someone that I follow online. Her notes were something I can bring back to my Future Educator students. She shared an app called Trello, which is used in the workplace now for collaborative projects.

I have so many new ideas in my head right now that my head is spinning! I have a bag full of information that I plan to share with others in my area - both at LO and outside of LO. I came here from a Google school, so the Microsoft sessions were extremely valuable to me. I also learned a little about Minecraft in the classroom, mostly to help me connect with my biological children though! :)

I spent a lot of time comparing various equipment for the classroom, like interactive white boards and classroom flex seating. I also learned about some new job fields, including drone operator, and online curriculum to support those job fields. There is also an app called Hall Pass that I think would be interesting to examine at the high school - it allows students to request a pass from their electronic device, rather than disrupting class. I just thought it was neat.

My biggest takeaway was how to connect to students while using technology thoughtfully. The session I went to about teaching the "on-demand generation" reinforced how to choose technology that will reach our students today. The presenter said to focus on five components: Give anytime, anywhere access of class materials to students, give 3 choices to students (don't overwhelm them with choices) when assigning tech tools, remember that students tend to prefer audio and visuals over just text, chunk assignments and give smaller feedback along the way to help with their need for instant gratification, and always ask yourself how your lesson promotes connectedness and collaboration either within the classroom or with the community. This was the last session I attended on Friday and I thought it summed up nicely what I had learned over all the other sessions. It reminded me to be thoughtful when choosing technology and also to be mindful of what students need.

I went to a session about growth mindset, which is interesting for students and teaching, but it is often something that I don't think about for myself especially in terms of reaching out of my comfort zone when teaching. With some of the growth mindset strategies, though, it is easier to implement new technology or changes! Also, I loved MACUL and I'm so happy I got to go this year!
