Health is the biggest wealth for a human being in our entire lifetime. We can survive without excess of money but can’t survive without good health. Well, Certainly I used to follow the routine which includes studies, rest and less Physical activities. But when I was going through the survey of Diabetes, I realised that exercise and healthy diet are two important factors which can change our life. I have identified that many people of this country are being affected by this disease which is affecting their body in a bad way. If a person is not having good health, he/she will not be able to enjoy his/her life. For a healthy lifestyle, one should follow many rules and should adapt consistent behaviour. Finally we all are aware that our health is the most important wealth that we have. So we should make a healthy lifestyle our our priority.

Thus, I took the initiative to make a survey form on the lifestyle disorder of Anemia. The motive behind this was to spread awareness and provide valuable unknown facts about this disease. Anemia is a condition that affects the number of red blood cells in your body. A number of diseases and conditions can cause anemia. Most of the children are unaware about the life taking disease of Anemia, thus my form acts as a guide to help regarding the sleeping habits, type of food intake, and routine one should follow to prevent it. Through the responses gathered, I have reached the conclusion that my peers were able to get an useful insight about this disease and were able to expand there knowledge.

~Devanshi Kochhar

''Health is Wealth.''

Lifestyle diseases, also known as 'non-communicable diseases' , are conditions associated with the way people live and behave ( as opposed to infectious diseases-which have less to do with human behavior). There are many lifestyle disorders ,for eg-Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

Computer Vision Syndrome is the general term used to describe a variety of vision related symptoms that may be aggravated by regular use of a mobile, computer, television for two or more hours a day.

The longer the use of screen leads to a decrease in blink reflex.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME (CVS)

Blurred Vision

Double Vision

Dry, red eyes

Eye irritation

Headaches

Neck and back pain

HOW TO PREVENT COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME (CVS)

Adjust the viewing distance

Use the right lighting

Install anti- glare screens

Correct your position and posture

Take breaks from screens

Blink more regularly

Choose the correct eyewear

Now I have gathered many responses and through the responses, I concluded that the problem of CVS has emerged in this century following increased usage of screen both at home and at work. There is a correlation between screen usage and ocular symptoms, such as pain, redness, dryness, blurred vision, double vision, and other head and neck sprains. Now my knowledge about Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) has increased.

Kiara Jain

V Auriga

A lifestyle disorder is a health issue that develops because of unhealthy daily habits. When people eat too much junk food, don't do enough exercise, spend too much time in front of screens, and don't sleep well, they can develop problems like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. These disorders are becoming more common as people live busier lives and choose quick, convenient options that aren't always healthy.

To prevent lifestyle disorders, making healthy choices every day is key. Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins helps our bodies get the nutrients they need. Regular physical activity, like playing sports, walking, or dancing, keeps our bodies strong and healthy. It's also important to limit screen time and ensure we get enough rest each night, so our bodies can recover and grow.

By adopting these healthy habits, we can avoid lifestyle disorders and lead happier, healthier lives. Even small changes, like choosing a piece of fruit instead of a candy bar or taking a walk instead of watching TV, can make a big difference. Taking care of our health today means we can enjoy a better tomorrow.

Avni Arora

V Auriga

The causes of hypertension can vary and may include genetic factors, lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise, stress levels, and underlying medical conditions like kidney disease or hormonal disorders.

One year ago, my grandfather was taking a large amount of salt in his food, he never did exercise, and was eating too much of unhealthy food from which he gained a lot of weight. After few days he was under the weather, so he went to the doctor. After certain tests, the doctor told my grandfather that he is suffering from hypertension. My grandfather was very worried. So he decided to take some actions against it. From that day my grandfather was taking small quantity of salt in his daily feast, he started to exercise 1 hour daily, and always used to eat healthy food. After some days, he was feeling much more better. So he went to the doctor. He attempted many more tests to check whether he is perfectly fine or not. The doctor was glad to see the final results. He told my grandfather that my grandfather is no more suffering from hypertension! My grandfather coudn't believe on his eyes when he saw the result paper.

Lifestyle diseases can be defined as the diseases linked to the manner in which a person lives their life. These diseases are non communicable and can be caused by lack of physical activity, alcohol, smoking, unhealthy eating etc. The most common lifestyle diseases are stroke, obesity, heart problems, lung cancer etc.

My topic is obesity. According to the survey I conducted shows that obesity is increasing in children. People are well aware about the symptoms, causes and preventive measures of obesity still they are not taking this disorder seriously and are continuing to eat junk food and unbalanced diet. They are more engaged in sitting activities like tv,laptop, phones instead they should engage more in physical activities. So,that they don't become overweight and prone to other diseases like joint pain, asthma, heart diseases etc.

Therefore, I concluded that people should be motivated to replace junk food with home cooked food and a proper nutritious diet ( taking more of fiber , protein instead of fats and sugar)and people should be more physically active. So, that they can maintain a healthy weight and live a happy and healthy life.

PRATHAM TANEJA

V-AURIGA

Obesity is when someone has too much body fat. It happens when people eat too much unhealthy food, like sugary snacks and fast food, and don't exercise enough. Some people might have a greater chance of becoming obese because it runs in their families. When someone is obese, it can make them feel sad or worried because they might get teased or treated differently because of their size.

To prevent obesity, it's important to eat a balanced diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and to limit sugary drinks and snacks. It's also important to stay active by playing outside, doing sports, or even just taking walks with family and friends. Learning about how different foods affect our bodies can help us make better choices about what we eat.

Communities can help prevent obesity too. They can make sure there are places to play outside, like parks and playgrounds, and that everyone has access to healthy foods in their neighborhoods. Schools can teach students about nutrition and offer healthy food choices in cafeterias.

By eating well, staying active, and being kind to each other, we can all work together to stay healthy and strong.

Here's The Experience Of My Friends And My Brother

• AARISH GUPTA : Aarish used to eat a lot of fast food and spend most of his time watching TV.

Reflecting on my lifestyle habits, I realize that I often spend too much time indoors, particularly in front of screens. Whether it's for schoolwork, playing video games, or watching TV, this habit affects my overall health and well-being. Spending too much time sitting and staring at screens can lead to eye strain, poor posture, and a lack of physical activity. It also means I miss out on the benefits of spending time outdoors, such as getting fresh air and sunlight, which are essential for good health.

To improve my lifestyle, one positive change I could make is to increase my outdoor activities. Instead of spending hours indoors, I could dedicate at least an hour each day to activities like playing soccer, riding my bike, or simply taking a walk in the park. These activities would not only help me stay physically fit but also improve my mood and energy levels.

Additionally, being outdoors would give me a chance to connect with nature and appreciate my surroundings. I could also use this time to bond with family and friends, playing games or exploring new places together. This change would help me develop a more balanced lifestyle, combining physical activity with relaxation and social interaction, leading to better overall health and well-being.

Arjun Gupta

V Auriga

AABHYA GUPTA

V AURIGA

•Obesity is a medical condition characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat that poses a risk to health. It is typically assessed using the body mass index (BMI), which considers a person's weight in relation to their height.

•Obesity has become a significant public health issue globally, with rates rising steadily over the past few decades. This condition results from an imbalance between calorie intake and expenditure, leading to the accumulation of excessive body fat. The health consequences of obesity are profound and diverse, increasing the risk of developing serious conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders.

•According to the survey, quite a few people are overweight according to their height and age and are suffering from one disease or the other. To observe their consciousness towards their healthy lifestyle, we performed the survey in a manner to know how many people are willing to work on their body. It can be noticed that most of them wish to lose fat and work hard for the same as they must be experiencing various problems.

•Many people get involved in their daily life and so their daily movement is moderate. Not living a healthy lifestyle not just affects us physically but also emotionally and mentally. It can also be observed in the survey that some of them have very active movement in their day to day life and it is highly appreciated. But if a person doesn’t get the opportunity to increase their mobility, it is advised to practice yoga. Yoga offers a myriad of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Physically, practicing yoga can improve flexibility, strength, and balance. The various postures (asanas) and sequences help stretch and tone muscles, enhance joint mobility, and promote better posture.

Well, I would like to end by saying ”Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind, and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.”

'' HEALTH IS THE GREATEST WEALTH ''

Lifestyle diseases, also known as Non-communicable diseases, are the conditions associated with the way we live [as opposed to diseases which have less to do with human behavior].

There are many lifestyle disorders, for example -

                          DIABETES

DIABETES is a lifetime disease in which the blood glucose, also called blood sugar is too high/low. Glucose is the human body's main source of energy. Human body can make glucose, but glucose also comes from the food we eat. Insulin is a hormone made by pancreas in our body which allows glucose in the blood to enter cells, providing them with the energy to function. A lack of effective insulin plays a key role in the development of diabetes.

Early signs and symptoms

1. Frequent urination

When blood sugar levels are high, the kidneys try to remove the excess sugar by filtering it out of the blood by urination.

2. Increased thirst

The frequent urination necessary to remove excess sugar from the blood can result in the body losing additional water. Over time, this can cause dehydration and make a person feel more thirsty than usual.

3. Frequent hunger

People with diabetes often do not get enough energy from their food.

The digestive system breaks food down into a simple sugar called glucose, which the body uses as fuel. In people with diabetes, not enough of this glucose moves from the bloodstream into the body’s cells.

4. Fatigue

Diabetes can impact a person’s energy levels and cause them to feel fatigued.

Diabetes fatigue occurs due to insufficient sugar moving from the bloodstream into the body’s cells.

5. Blurry vision

An excess of sugar in the blood can damage the tiny blood vessels in the eyes, which can cause blurry vision. This can occur in one or both eyes.

High blood sugar levels can also lead to swelling of the eye lens. This can cause blurred vision but will improve when blood sugar levels reduce.

If a person with diabetes goes without treatment, the damage to these blood vessels can become more severe, and permanent vision loss may eventually occur.

6. Slow healing of cuts and wounds

High sugar levels in the blood can damage the body’s nerves and blood vessels, which can impair blood circulation. As a result, even small cuts and wounds may take weeks or months to heal. Slow wound healing also increases the risk of infection.

7. Tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands or feet

High blood sugar levels can affect blood circulation and damage the nerves.

8. Patches of darker skin

Patches of darker skin forming on creases of the neck, armpit, or groin can also result from diabetes. These patches may feel soft and velvety.

9. Itching and yeast infections
Excess sugar in the blood and urine provides food for yeast, which can lead to infection. Yeast infections tend to occur on warm, moist areas of the skin, such as the mouth, genital areas, and armpits.

The affected areas are usually itchy, but a person may also experience burning, skin discoloration, and soreness.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Recognizing the early signs of type 2 diabetes can allow a person to get a diagnosis and treatment sooner.

Getting appropriate treatment, making lifestyle changes, and controlling blood sugar levels can greatly improve a person’s health and quality of life and reduce the risk of complications.

Without treatment, persistently high blood sugar levels can lead to severe and sometimes life threatening complications, including:

heart disease

stroke

nerve damage, or neuropathy

foot problems

kidney disease, which can result in a person needing dialysis

eye disease or loss of vision

sexual problems

Keeping blood sugar levels under control is crucial for preventing some of these complications. The longer blood sugar levels remain uncontrolled, the higher the risk of other health problems.

Untreated diabetes can also lead to hyperosmolar hyperglycemic syndrome (HHS), which causes a severe and persistent increase in blood sugar levels. An illness or infection will usually trigger HHS, which can require hospitalization. This sudden complication tends to affect older people.

How to prevent Diabetes

Maintaining a healthy weight

Eating a balanced diet

Exercising regularly

Summary

Spotting the early symptoms of diabetes can help a person receive a timely diagnosis and start treatment right away. This helps prevent diabetes complications, which can be very dangerous.

Anyone who thinks that they may have diabetes should contact a doctor.

BY RIDDHI MAHESHWARI

In today's digital age, computers, smartphones, and other electronic devices have become an integral part of our lives. While these devices offer numerous benefits and conveniences, prolonged use can lead to a range of health issues, one of which is Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). CVS is a common problem affecting both children and adults, and its prevalence is on the rise due to our increasing reliance on screens. This article aims to provide comprehensive information on Computer Vision Syndrome, including its causes, symptoms, risk factors, benefits, and most importantly, tips for preventing and managing it.

What is Computer Vision Syndrome?

Computer Vision Syndrome, also known as Digital Eye Strain, is a condition that results from prolonged and uninterrupted use of digital devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers. It is characterized by a range of eye and vision-related problems that occur when individuals spend extended periods of time staring at screens.

Causes of Computer Vision Syndrome

Prolonged Screen Time: The primary cause of CVS is the extended duration of time spent in front of screens. The eyes are not naturally designed for prolonged focus on digital screens.

Screen Glare and Reflections: Poor lighting conditions and screen glare can force the eyes to work harder to maintain focus.

Poor Ergonomics: Inadequate seating or screen positioning can lead to poor posture, causing CVS-related symptoms.

Uncorrected Vision Problems: Individuals with uncorrected vision problems, such as near-sightedness or astigmatism, are more susceptible to CVS.

Blue Light Exposure: Screens emit blue light, which can disrupt sleep patterns and contribute to CVS symptoms.

Symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome

The symptoms of CVS can vary from person to person but commonly include:

Eye Strain: Aching, burning, or heavy feeling in the eyes.

Headaches: Frequent headaches, often starting at the forehead and temples.

Blurred Vision: Difficulty focusing on the screen or other objects, both near and far.

Dry Eyes: Reduced blinking while using screens can lead to dry, irritated eyes.

Double Vision: Seeing two images of the same object on the screen.

Neck and Shoulder Pain: Poor posture while using digital devices can cause neck and shoulder discomfort.

Difficulty Concentrating: Reduced concentration and increased irritability.

Risk Factors for Computer Vision Syndrome

Several factors can increase the risk of developing CVS:

Excessive Screen Time: Spending long hours on screens, whether for work, study, or leisure, increases the likelihood of CVS.

Inadequate Lighting: Poor lighting conditions in the workspace or home can strain the eyes and worsen CVS symptoms.

Poor Ergonomics: Uncomfortable seating, improper screen positioning, and incorrect keyboard/mouse placement contribute to CVS.

Preexisting Vision Conditions: Individuals with existing vision problems are more vulnerable to CVS.

Blue Light Exposure: Extensive exposure to the blue light emitted by screens, especially before bedtime, can disrupt sleep patterns.

Age: As individuals age, their eyes become more susceptible to CVS, making older adults more prone to its symptoms.

Benefits of Preventing Computer Vision Syndrome

Preventing and managing CVS offers several benefits, including:

Reduced Discomfort: Minimizing CVS symptoms can significantly reduce discomfort, such as eye strain and headaches.

Improved Productivity: By preventing CVS, individuals can work or study more comfortably and efficiently.

Better Eye Health: Reducing digital eye strain contributes to long-term eye health.

Enhanced Quality of Life: A reduction in CVS-related symptoms leads to an improved overall quality of life.

Long-Term Vision Preservation: Preventing CVS helps maintain healthy vision throughout life.

Tips for Preventing Computer Vision Syndrome

Preventing CVS is essential for maintaining eye health and overall well-being, especially in our screen-centric world. Here are some practical tips for preventing and managing Computer Vision Syndrome:

1. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule: To reduce eye strain, follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break, and focus on an object at least 20 feet away. This practice helps relax the eye muscles and prevents fatigue.

2. Adjust Screen Settings: Optimize your screen settings for maximum comfort. Adjust the brightness, contrast, and font size to reduce glare and make on-screen text more readable.

3. Proper Lighting: Ensure that your workspace is well-lit. Use indirect lighting to reduce screen glare and reflections. Avoid working in dimly lit or excessively bright rooms.

4. Maintain Ergonomic Posture: Maintain proper posture while using digital devices. Your screen should be at eye level, and your chair and desk should support a comfortable working position. Use a document holder to avoid constantly shifting your gaze between the screen and paper documents.

5. Blink More Often: Blink frequently to keep your eyes moist. Extended screen time reduces the natural blink rate, leading to dry eyes. Consider using artificial tears to lubricate your eyes if needed.

6. Adjust Screen Distance: Position your screen at arm's length away and at eye level. This reduces the strain on your eye muscles and prevents you from leaning forward or tilting your head excessively.

7. Use Blue Light Filters: Many devices and applications offer blue light filters or night mode settings. Enable these features to reduce blue light exposure, especially in the evening to improve sleep quality.

8. Get Regular Eye Exams: Regular eye exams are crucial for detecting and addressing vision problems. An optometrist can prescribe glasses or contact lenses if needed and provide advice on managing CVS.

9. Practice the Palming Exercise: To relax your eye muscles, try the palming exercise. Rub your hands together to generate heat and place your warm palms over your closed eyes. Hold for 30 seconds while taking deep breaths. Repeat as needed throughout the day.

10. Adjust Device Settings: Adjust the text size, contrast, and color scheme on your devices to make them more eye-friendly. Use dark mode or invert colors to reduce strain, especially during nighttime use.

11. Limit Screen Time: Set limits on screen time, especially for children. Encourage breaks and engage in activities that don't involve screens, such as outdoor play, reading physical books, or engaging in hobbies.

12. Stay Hydrated: Drink enough water throughout the day to maintain overall health, including eye health. Proper hydration helps prevent dry eyes.

13. Screen-Free Bedtime: Avoid using screens at least an hour before bedtime to improve sleep quality. The blue light emitted by screens can disrupt circadian rhythms and make it difficult to fall asleep.

14. Consider Computer Glasses: Computer glasses with blue light-blocking coatings can reduce blue light exposure and alleviate CVS symptoms. Consult an eye care professional for recommendations.

15. Use Anti-Glare Filters: Consider applying anti-glare filters to your screens to reduce reflections and glare. These filters are especially useful for laptops and desktop monitors.

16. Encourage Outdoor Time: Encourage children and adults alike to spend time outdoors regularly. Outdoor activities can help reduce the risk of developing CVS and promote overall eye health.

17. Monitor Children's Device Usage: Parents should monitor and limit their children's screen time, ensuring they take breaks and engage in other activities to prevent CVS and promote healthy development.

18.Seek professional Help:If you experience persistent CVS symptoms despite following these tips, consult an eye care specialist.

Computer Vision Syndrome is a prevalent condition that affects both children and adults in today's digital age. However, by following the tips outlined in this article, individuals can significantly reduce the risk of developing CVS and alleviate its symptoms. It's crucial to prioritize eye health and take proactive steps to prevent digital eye strain, as healthy eyes contribute to overall well-being and quality of life. By implementing these strategies and making mindful choices about screen use, we can enjoy the benefits of technology without compromising our vision.

Jashraaj singh

V auriga
