The Savior on Spilled Blood is one of the most famous memorial Orthodox churches in the city of St. Petersburg, called in the name of the Resurrection of Christ. It was built in memory of the fact that on March 1, 1881, the wounded Emperor Alexander II was wounded in its place as a result of an assassination attempt. Therefore, the expression "Savior-on-the-Blood" evokes precisely on the very blood of the king. It was decided to build a temple as a monument to the Tsar-Martyr with funds collected from the population of Russia.

The temple was built by order of Alexander III in the period from 1883 to 1907. To help the emperor, Alfred Parland was appointed architect and archimandrite Malyshev, who later withdrew from the construction of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Today you can see the temple, made in the classic "Russian style", which somewhat resembles the famous Moscow Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed. The illumination of the cathedral was carried out in the summer of 1907.
