I will not contribute to frontierism, that is, the belief that natural resources are limitless, because I have personally witnessed how long and slow the process of nature's restoration is after it has been damaged. When I was ten years old, I swam in a clear and clean river for the first time in Banna, Ilocos Norte. The water is so rich and pure that it is safe to drink it directly. I felt fortunate to have swam that river for a while, and I was saddened to see that when I turned thirteen, the river's color turned to brown. When we visited the river again, there were construction vehicles moving at the riverside. Later, I discovered that the local officials decided to construct a dam in that river. To make the matters worse, the provincial funds were not enough to finish the project, and the dam ended up unfinished even up to this day. What was intended for the industrialist good for the people ended up
harming the environment and contaminating the source of water for the families living near that river. For years, the river was too damaged that the farmers
living nearby could no longer source their water from there, and their children no longer swam in that river. The people had to find another way to collect water to wash their clothes, dishes and themselves, and buy drinkable water.
 
 But all hope is not lost. When I visited Banna again on 2022, the river's color improved. It is still a bit gray in color, and there is cement powder mixed in the water, but it was clearer than it was a couple years ago. It is not clean enough to be swimming in, and very unsanitary to use for
drinking and washing clothes and dishes, but it's well on its way to restoration.
 
 As you can see, once our natural resources get damaged, there's still hope for restoration, and nature can heal itself over time but the process is incredibly slow and long. The river I recounted was untouched
for years and kept flowing, which contributed greatly to its own restoration.
 
However, if the railways system project pushes through, the lands levelled by it will not be easily restored because it will always be interfered by humans and our infrastructures. Depending on the gravity of the destruction that the project will inflict, it's unfortunately possible that the
fields' destruction could reach a point wherein the damage is just irreversible.
 
There are other ways to ease traffic like implementing bicycle and pedestrian facilities to encourage bicycling and walking instead of using cars, and implementing pricing strategies that charge drivers when they drive through congested roads and rewarding those who shift to a better route (Texas A&M Transportation Institute). Also, putting up a railways system that allow people to go to work as far as from Baguio to Bicol may also call for more construction for dorms and condominiums to accommodate to some workers whose schedules are too hectic to travel home daily and opt for going home on the weekends instead, destroying more natural resources. Starting to create railway systems is a big step for the overall transportation system of the Philippines because commuters are experiencing problems with current transportation modes such as MRT being packed and taxis being overpriced. Regardless of the repercussions for the environment, I think it has been long overdue that the Philippines is starting to develop its transportation systems for the benefit of the citizens. Not only that, more job opportunities would rise and transportation of goods would improve. Without a doubt, people still lack a sense of urgency toward the declining health of the environment. The destruction of trees and farms is very detrimental to the environment's health. The expansion of the railway system will also contribute even more pollution to the environment.

Through the construction of the railway system, people will be given TEMPORARY jobs. It will only help those people for a short amount of time. Only those who are fit to be construction workers are the ones who are able to benefit from this.

I am not supporting the construction of this railway system because destroying nature will be much more dangerous to the general public. I am weighing out the short-term benefits of providing jobs to people and the long-term benefits of nature.

What will happen to the farmers that will have their farms destroyed for the sake of industrialization? Their hard work would be destroyed just for the convenience of others. People who enjoy the provincial and local lifestyle will be forced to live in the modern world, which is basically stripping them of their freedom to live as they will.

I believe developing countries need to think of other ways to modernize by using more environmentally-friendly means. Therefore, I also believe the railway system should not be constructed.

With that in mind, I would allow this project to push through, making the railway system from the North to South regions a reality.

Upon observing the economic and environmental implications of this idea, it was clear to me that the benefits that this can bring to our country would be very good, as it allows the people to have more avenues of transport, and even through convenient means. The traffic problem that has become very evident for so long has taken its toll on our systems, and any remedy done to solve those problems hasn't even made close to ground-breaking results. This can let citizens from Luzon, in this case, have a much more easier way of going to different places. It can even give those who produce goods and important products in these regions a much more convenient way to transport and ship them much faster compared to having to go through road, sea, or even air. This can save the country so much money and good for air pollution and energy consumption levels can decrease, and for more clean air to disperse throughout the area.

While I do see that even if this may be a beneficial project, it would come at a risk of course, through building over already present standing farms and forests. It would also be considerable that we have to look at the resources that will definitely be lost at the risk of building this transport system. But in retrospect, the people who had stable jobs at areas that this system would build over can earn much higher-earning opportunities, from a government-funded project no less, and it allows the provinces in Luzon to expand their horizon and experience the urbanization that a hub like Manila contains. 

With good minds and hands on board for this project, we can definitely allow this opportunity to reap its benefits for its long-term outlook. An upholding of good values and a proper and realistic expected outcome is a key factor in allowing this project to succeed. I know that the Philippines have big problems when it comes to transportation. Many Filipinos are suffering as a result of transportation. This would be economically beneficial for the Philippines. Without the construction of infrastructure, the country would still be stuck riding on dirt roads and even construction of infrastructure. There will be negative effects on the environment and should be taken seriously, especially climate change but with proper planning, budgeting, and mitigation, this can be properly mitigated and managed. For example, every tree chopped down should be replanted.
