31/01/2024

As an introduction to our first lesson, we were asked to be put into groups and answer some rather 'inhumane' questions to express our creative limits and boundaries. My group and I (Ayaan K and Alannah O) collaborated and communicated to develop practical ideas on 'how to shave a monkey'. At first, the ideas were coming to us naturally with easy and efficient solutions, but as time went on and the practicality of our ideas decreased, we realised we would need to use our diverse creativity to come up with unique solutions to unique questions, despite them being quite unorthodox or deemed impossible. However, despite the quite difficult twist in the question, we were able to come up with and communicate creative ideas for the question efficiently.

05/02/2024

For this activity, we were given a few short minutes to fill the circles with as many ideas as possible with no words. This made us stretch our creative ability and imagination in a short amount of time. The circles have different drawings of whatever me and my group could come up with, including clocks, moons, snow globes; and more creative, 'unprovoked' and absurd ideas such as a box and fish-eye lens. Overall, I believe this activity was fun and helped getting our minds ready for our creative approach to our upcoming summative.

01/02/2024

We can all agree that one + one is two, but mixing a drop of water with another drop of water will still produce only one drop of water. Similarly goes for the ideation process – connecting two ideas or concepts together at the end we will have one idea or a concept. Being creative involves the same steps – combining from the first look unrelated ideas and coming up with something new. In this exercise, we were put into pairs and let our minds wander and create undiscovered ideas.

My partner and I chose a frog and a clock simultaneously. However, the two items don't necessarily correlate, so it was difficult to come up with a relevant solution. However, it also made us think beyond then what we usually would. Our final product ended up being a cuckoo clock with frog croaks as the alarm. However, despite this rather simple ideation considering the two options of a frog and clock, we did find this activity beneficial. We had to stretch our creativity and imagination, despite the idea being somewhat absurd and unwarranted. We also got critical feedback from our peers when we presented to the class which we will definitely keep in mind for next time:

Use hand gestures

Make eye-contact

Be confident

If a client asks a question you cannot ask in the moment, let them know you'll work on it; don't stutter or seem unprepared

------------------------------------

People can come up with the most unexpected ideas and the more varied backgrounds/ages/hobbies they have, the more fun it gets. Therefore, make sure to mix up the groups and put some time aside for presentations.

Another way of making this exercise according to its creator, Michael Michalko, is to write down the name of the object people come up with on a sticky note and post it on their forehead. Then ask people to mingle around the room and find another object to combine with theirs.

Using the information our group provided us on their emotions during lunch, we took that information and made interview questions so we could provide a better lunch experience for our partner, and thus create a solution.

------------------------------------

"My partner does not enjoy classes. Classes make her sad, and lunch i the only thing that gives her a sliver of happiness in her daily routine of depression. Therefore, to provide and help Hannah overcome this depressive state, we much extend lunch times, so Hannah would appreciate classes more, and pay more attention." Was my thesis statement.

However, something else that is important to pay attention to is the pitching of the solution or product. Pitching is essential for conveying ideas persuasively. A well-crafted pitch captures attention, communicates value, and drives action. It fosters relationships by showcasing professionalism and credibility. Effective pitches differentiate from competitors, adapt to diverse audiences, and address objections convincingly. They create opportunities, sparking interest and opening doors to collaboration. A good pitch can change outcomes by shaping perceptions, inspiring action, and generating growth.

I mean, who wouldn't want more time to relax, recharge, and socialize with friends? With a longer lunch break, I could finally take a much-needed mental break from the classroom and come back feeling refreshed and ready to learn. Not only that, but we would have more time to pursue my passions and interests, like playing sports or getting involved in extracurricular activities. And let's not forget about the social benefits - longer lunch breaks would give us more time to hang out with friends, build meaningful relationships, and develop important social skills. Overall, a longer lunch break would be a game-changer for students like me and you who are looking for ways to improve their well-being and get the most out of their school experience."

26/02/2024

In class today, we were introduced our new assignment, The Spin-Off Project. This summative is based off a local council problem we and many others face. These problems can fall under many categories, such as environmental, educational, community and others. My group consists of Aaniba, Hannah and me.

A problem us three all have in common is the lack of proper cultural clothing in Adelaide, that is affordable and authentic. We chose the CBC as our council. The reason why is because there’s a variety of people from different ethnicities, and it’s a main attraction in Adelaide where numerous groups of people visit. Overall, we're really confident in our service.

We know we also have to create a 2-minute pitch video to represent our service.

26/02/2024

Our problem was not having any clothing lines that incorporate Asian cultural and modest clothing. Due to the lack of the cultural clothing found in more westernised types of stores, and inability and limited access to affordable cultural clothing. From personal experience, buying cultural clothes online is a risk of scamming, overpricing and confusion over authenticity, as well as late delivery. So our solution is to create a clothing brand that incorporates major Asian cultural clothing for different occasions, being affordable and authentic.

We're planning on making our service to be available to women and teenagers, as we believe this group is mostly influenced by clothing.

Our plan to successfully execute our idea is creating a store, ad + Website with multiple different cultural clothing types to promote awareness of different cultures, helping individuals find their identities and bring groups of people together

Similar to the Spin-Off Project, we are now creating a different product or service that we will develop into a real service and present at the INNOV8 Expo. Aaniba, Hannah and I have decided to stay in a group together, recounting how well we work together regarding previous group tasks together.

At the beginning on this lesson, we had to list different ideas many people face everyday; not broad problems such as diseases, more like simple problems, such as spilled drinks. We were told to list them into these categories:

Environment - How might we work proactively to ensure a sustainable environment for current and future generations?

Social Enterprise - How might we create businesses that support members of our global community?

Learning - How might we improve the experience of Education for students and educators?

Health & Wellbeing - How might we ensure that every person in our communities is as ‘well’ as they can be?

Community Development- How might we make our communities thrive?

Enterprise - How might we solve problems that matter for specific customers?

------------------------------------

Our ideas:

Health & Wellbeing - How might we ensure that every person in our communities is as ‘well’ as they can be?

Mental health support system or workshop for students struggling

Empowerment and advertising of self-care regularly, e.g. billboards

Mentally ill people

Some communities aren’t able to be fit: Programs that helps people maintain fitness

Anxiety is on the rise with no complementing advancements in resources

Helping the disabled with their lives

Hospitals: Waiting times - public health care

Community Development - How might we make our communities thrive?

Create a website or app that enables communities to interact with each other

We’re too primitive

Vandalism

Stealing, theft, weird people in the road

Lack of parking

Smoking, vaping

Adolescent rebellion real

Respect

Lack of awareness of certain concepts i.e. Relationships and sexual health

Enterprise - How might we solve problems that matter for specific customers?

Efficient resource allocation:

Technological disruption

Talent management

Competition

Cybersecurtiy, internet

Small affordable businesses

Lack of support and company or programs for the elderly community

------------------------------------

After finishing this activity, we are to choose an idea that relates to us.

However, we do not want to continue our Spin-Off Project into our INNOV8 idea, as we believe it is a way too broad idea to develop into a real company with just us 3. However, we're sure we'll come up with a really really good idea that can help many people. We're thinking of incorporating VRs into our service, but it's just an idea as of right now and we'll expand on it next lesson.

10/04/2024

Branching off from our ideas from the beginning of this assignment, we decided to incorporate VRs into our service, as we believe that VR experiences offer animmersive and engaging way to interact with content and technology. We want to take advantage of the ability to be transported to different places and situations though VR. The level of immersion and presence that VR provides is really really beneficial for our upcoming service and help so many people.

-----------------------------------

During this time, Aaniba, Hannah and I were looking through different famous pitches, from the best to the worst. We took notes from what we learnt and what not to do. We watched through Big Willy's pitch, and took note of his enthusiasm an awareness of his audience and his product, As Big Willy's product was a party service, it was appropriate to be as enthusiastic and fun as possible, acting like the lovable party animal he is.

We believe that if we are to use VR, we should act professional, as VRs are very prestigious and used for many beneficial and professional environments. However, it truly depends on our actual service idea, which we have not yet thought of.

We also watched through BlueLand's pitch, and we took note of how such problem that isn't recognised much could have such a small simple solution. From this, we understand that we do not need an extravagant flashy solution, and something as simple as dissolving tablets as cleaning products is so much better. We do not want our product/service to be too extravagant or over-the-top, but from the words above, we do wish it to be prestigious.

05/04/2024

Me, Aaniba and Hannah been thinking about creating products that tackle big environmental issues, like the problem with microbeads in personal care items and the inefficiency in renewable energy collection. For the skincare and hair products, we would want to avoid harmful ingredients like microplastics and use eco-friendly packaging. This way, people can still enjoy their favorite products without feeling guilty about harming the environment. It could make a big difference by reducing pollution and promoting healthier choices. However, we believe this may be a stretch, as microbeads is a huge huge problem (it is very very broad), and it would be near impossible for us to do much about it.

However, we also thought that on the regarding renewable energy, the idea of "solar panel glass" sounds very very helpful. If we do this, we are planning on integrating solar panels into everyday windows, it could help collect and store energy more efficiently. This would make it so much easier for people to power their homes sustainably. Overall, these ideas are good when keeping in mind practical environmentally friendly solutions and products.

Personally, I believe we're going too broad when regarding something as huge as solar panel windows, especially considering the impacts and costs. I would much rather us create something simple, such as a small handheld product or a website.

01/05/2024

We have finally come up with the idea of using virtual reality into our product. We believe our product, or rather service, is one of kind, never seen before, and can definitely help those we are planning to help. Our service is to provide “mini-experiences” for customers to experience different places if they’re indecisive with where they want to go. Very similar to Flight Centre, instead with a more immersive twist.

Also providing a VR experience to go to countries for those of old age or disabled.

Imagine being able to virtually walk through the streets of Paris, or hike the trails in the Swiss Alps, all from your living room. It’s not just about travel planning; it’s about giving people a taste of what’s out there. We will also provide VR experiences for those who might find it hard to travel physically, like the elderly or people with disabilities. They can experience different countries and cultures without any hassle. This could open up the world for so many people, making travel and adventure accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical limitations.

We believe this is a great idea, as we, Aaniba, Hannah and I, have been disappointed with travel destinations lots of times, and we want to make sure this does not happen to our future customers.

06/05/2024 - 13/05/2024

We have finalised our product, VR Flights Service. All that we need to do now is create it properly. I have created 2 different logos, yet I am still contemplating which ones to choose. The blue logo is more friendly and welcoming, yet the black logo looks much more prestigious and fancy. We will eventually choose a logo.

We also needed to consider some areas regarding our service:

How do we make sure there’s no exclusion since cost is one thing i.e. the production + purchase price

How do we make sure there’s no exclusion for individuals with various disabilities or health issues as not everyone is able to wear a headset and feel alright after

How could we counteract the health hazards when using the devices? I.e. many people experience migraines, dizziness or fatigue after using the headsets

Outro use

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWH-xRNBEMk

Statistics

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0261517722000498 “When a negative event occurs in a tourism destination, tourists may feel the destination fails to meet their expectations for a destination experience,”
How many people go on holidays every year

How many people struggle to find holiday destinations

Two in three (64 percent) of Aussie workers—equivalent to 8 million people—actively plan their next escape on their working time.

Finder.com.au stated that the average Australian employee spends roughly about 57 minutes a week hunting for flights and hotels in their salary range, which is equivalent to about 7.6 million hours wasted every week all across.

This is a direct result of their lack of knowledge about their dream destinations and their ignorance of what they’re getting into, thus dissatisfying them with their potential vacation.

"We know from personal experience, and we’re sure you felt as though at some point too, there have been times where we were disappointed in our travel destinations, due to only looking at the instagram-filtered pictures online, rather than the actual reality of our holiday. With our service, we take it upon ourselves to make sure to all of you to not feel any disappointment on a journey that is meant to be fun and relaxing for you!"

On a better note, Aaniba requested from Mr Mewett a real life VR from media studies, and he agreed! This is a really great way to showcase our service more properly. We will need to learn how to use it properly to show it for our marketing pitch.

15/05/2024

Our marketing pitch was a success! A few changes we made along the way in previous lessons was that we instead partnered with Flight Centre instead of competing with them. Keep your enemies close.

We got critical feedback from Mr. Stokes and Mr. Mewett as well as our peers. Of course, to all the questions they had asked regarding our service, we were not able t answer them right away. However, we did plan for this, and instead of standing there bewildered, we answered with "Thank you for providing us with that insight, we'll surely be working on it!", taking into account our potential customer's words and concerns.

During our marketing pitch, we used Mr. Mewett's VR from media studies. However, we were not able to connect it to a virtual location file in time for the marketing pitch. So we instead improvised. Our plan for this display goes as follows:

We had Aaniba wear the VR (which was turned off), while me and Hannah slid the screen to show a virtual reality video of Paris on youtube.

Aaniba was wondering around with no sense of what was happening, ultimately relying on me and Hannah to successfully showcase how our VR service would go.

In addition to this, we added an AI travel guide in our VR. Again, with the VR turned off, we had to manually play it on my phone. This worked with Aaniba speaking from memory and in time, and with me playin the audio depending on what she said.

We had to rehearse this multiple times to make sure we were all in time with each other. Hannah with the VR footage, me with the audio, and Aaniba with the Oculus.

Ultimately, this was a huge success, and we got positive feedback at the end. The feedback goes as followed:

Good timing and strong introduction. Would the suggested issues be solved through VR (wifi/stiff bed/heating)? Some good stats

A little more refinement would help with exactly what it will give to the audience. An interesting idea with definite potential though and made the audience think. Some clarity needed around what clients will get. Try and get clarity around how footage extra is going to be gained in a manageable, quality driven manner..

Good tone and some good use of eye contact. Nice use of repetition and other persuasive techniques. Very clever display of how the idea would work. Brilliant timing.

Thoughtful responses. Took on board suggestions well. Polite. Answered confidently.

Now all we have left to do if our INNOV8 Expo regarding this product, which we believe we'll be able to pull off.

We are planning on creating brochures, business cards and refining our script to make sure it all goes well on the night. We are also planning on creating appropriate posters.

05/06/2024

Aaniba, Hannah and I have created a great idea of recording our own VR footage instead of using footage from youtube, what we did for our marketing pitch. We are very very proud and hopeful with this idea. We are planning on asking Mr. Mewett for the 360 degrees camera from media studies, very much how we asked for the VR originally. We are going to record the entirety of the school with this camera and showcase it on my TV.

However, it is very important to keep mind that, our service is a 'VR fight service', an aims to help those to travel ABROAD. We have already considered this. The only reason we are planning on recording the school to showcase as our VR footage is to display our VR and the features it comes with it.

We are planning on editing in pre-recorded AI voices, which react to every command, very much like SIRI.

We also believe that having the school displayed will our our commitment towards this expo, going to great lengths to make it perfect. We also believe that it would be very fun to have a personal display of our school, but in VR form.

We are recreating our marketing pitch for the INNOV8 night. This is because, due to the many parents and peers and teachers that would be walking around, we have to simplify our script so our potential customers (and investors) have a simple idea of our product without losing attention. We believe we have done this, while also keeping relevant information, such as statistics.

We encountered a few problems while recording, such as not having valid SD cards, having trouble connecting, charging problems. Because of the problem of the SD card (or rather lack of), this caused us to not even be able to connect our mobile phones to the VR camera to collect footage. These hindered our timing and schedules. However, it took about 2 lessons and out of class time to continue to record properly and to our satisfaction, However, we believe it was worth it, as the recording came out to be amazing and very interactive. All that is left is to manually edit the video to include AI voiceovers.

So, we now have a TV, 3 laptops, and a banner to display our idea, as well as brochures and business cards. I have successfully designed and printed out the business cards.

However, there were some complications when printing out the brochures, such as the sizing. The borders of the printing paper caused it to not be in line with each other, which caused very manual printing jobs and editing, causing to be very tedious. However, we did succesfully print these out in time.

There is only 2 days until the expo. We have all agreed on memorising parts of our script WITHOUT queue cards, when talking to our potential customers. This was an easy task, as we only each had a small amount of words to say. Aaniba talked about the features of the VR, which she will say when showing the VR footage on the TV. While Hannah will briefly talk about our plans and pricing, as well the margin and the package deals. And I briefly talk about our service as a whole at the beginning and end.

My part of the script:

"Our service provides a 360 virtual reality immersive experience for those above 13 years of age.

19/06/2024

Aaniba, Hannah and I have found a proper website to print out a poster of ours in a gigantic format, suitable for the banner that Aaniba is planning to bring. The website is called "The Rasterbater", which prints out parts of our poster in multiple pieces of paper, and we connect them manually, very much like a puzzle piece.

Using this website, we have finally printed out the banner out, which turned out to be a more tedious and difficult task than anticipated. One of them was the same as our brochure printing; there was a border problem, which caused the banner to not be in line. Due to parts of our poster being printed our separately like the website caused it to, there were some complications with the printing. However, we decided that we should just let that be, as it was not too crooked, and because we did not have enough time to print again, and also because it would be too much work to manually re-fix the borders of each individual piece of paper. However, this wasn't a big problem, and while we did not necessarily find a fix, it was still a really really display, in our opinions.

Our group was able to be paired up with Ayaan, Ben and Daniel in order to share our ideas of our service and their, to get a refresh on our problem and solution and how we can improve. Their service was a dental safe chewing gum that helps with those on the go, with no time to necessarily brush their teeth. We believed their idea was good, as well as their presentation and statistics; they had statistics and scientific research to back up their findings, which we admired. We showed each other what we had so far in order to get mutual feedback through using the Compass Points Thinking Routine.

Compass Points Thinking Routine

E - What excites you about this idea or preposition?

20/06/2024

The INNOV8 Expo went really really well in my opinion. I want to talk about our stall to begin with, and what we could do to improve and how it went. However, there were a few complications at the beginning. But we all quickly got the hang of the expo and successully did it.

Our stall was really really good in my opinion! Despite me being able to bring a small TV to display our VR footage, we managed to bag the big screen as well! This is super super lucky for us, which gave us an ever bigger eye-capturing sequence! My TV displayed our VR footage of the school, which deemed to be very helpful, as the VR footage on the laptops alone were not as insightful. Aaniba successfully brought her LED lights, which added a more aesthetically pleasing vibe to our stall, thus attracting more potential customers and investors. We also made it match our stall's themes with the colour purple. Aaniba also brought her banner with the pages we printed out the day prior, with her sticking them together herself at home (thank you Aaniba!!) and bringing it to school herself. Regarding the big TV screen which we very very luckily got access to, we thought of just displaying an animated intro we animated prior as an eye-catcher. This was also a success, as people were able to find our stall very very quickly because of it! And Hannah made the cool posters at the back, and we displayed our VR service's prices on her laptop, which she represented really really well. Overall, I believe our stall was very VERY good at attracting people, and was also very aesthetically pleasing.

However, there were some problems at the beginning. One of them was that an email was sent out to our class with the room that we would be presenting in. However, the person that sent this email got the room wrong, which caused us to suddenly change our room. However, at that moment, we had already prepared parts of our stall, getting a good table as well as two boards to stick our posters on. When we changed rooms, we no longer had our 2 boards, and we no longer had a good table. After lots and lots of negotiating, we managed to get everything we needed, depsite only getting one board at the end. However, this proved to be so much better than the alternative, as we had even better stall than we had originally wanted. But this leaves me to wonder, would our stall have been just as good if we did not move rooms? Probably not.

At the beginning of the expo at 4:30pm, we were encountered with a very curious father and his daughter. This was very unexpected (well, not unexpected, but very sudden, as the expo had only JUST started at that moment and we were startled with his presence). Because of this, we originally messed up our lines and as soon as he left, Aaniba, Hannah and I had to have a quick debriefing to look out for customers and judges, and to quickly be prepared for any other customers. We quickly fixed ourselves up, and presented really really well! I was very very proud of us!

In a surprising turn of events, our group came 3rd place in the expo regarding Enterprises! Aaniba, Hannah and I were so surprised. However, we were also very nervous, as we had to present our existing marketing pitch (that we presented to our class) to a large group of people, friends, family and peers. It was certainly anxiety-inducing. Especially considering how we have not touched the marketing pitch in longer than a month at that time. However, we had to quickly re-print our original marketing pitch script and quickly re-learn as much as we could at that point.

However, despite this very, very sudden change of events, we successfully presented our marketing pitch once again. Although it definitely was not as good as before, it was still very legible and understandable. We eventually came third, to a service called Wardrobe Wizards, who specialised in AI clothing helping, and Panel Pals, a very very intelligent and professional service to help clean solar panels. They were both really really good, and I can see why they won. However, ours was really good too, and I am very very proud. We won a strawberry and creams Lindt chocolate package, which Hannah happily took. Overall, this was a great experience, and I am happy it happened. I met lost of people and learned so many new things regrading presentation and public speaking.

Action Project REFLECTION

The Action Project taught me the importance of adaptability, resourcefulness, effective teamwork, and communication. I recognised my personal strengths and areas for growth, gained confidence in public speaking, and learned to present effectively under pressure. Through encouragement through my teamwork and an urge to succeed and compete, I had to fully memorise scripts and be able to present them without any mistakes. At first, I found this extremely difficult, as I have never been someone who was necessarily outgoing, nor do I talk as loudly as one should. However, this course required me to get over my lack of public speaking skills to help me and my group succeed. Overall, this experience provided substantial personal growth and prepared me for future challenges. However, I also learned how important it is to talk and communicate to people. A main reason we got a good grade on our Action Project is due to the communication between our group and our teacher. We communicated and negotiated for many effective strategies, such as a proper VR and a 360 camera to further enhance our chances and commitment. Because of this, I will try to further strive for my personal best in many future commitments, and ask and communicate for anything that I know will further improve my grade and skills.

Through this course, my team and I have communicated an abundance of times to make sure our work was as perfect as we could make it. We communicated ideas for our service, as well as solutions to our problems, as well as complications on the way, as well as collaborating and giving advice to ideas and opinions. I’ve learned and developed my teamwork skills, coordinating effectively with peers, and resolving conflicts constructively with my group through this course, collaborating effectively with each other. However, we also needed to be insanely creative with each other, especially considering how competitive Action Project is. We were able to creatively add on to each other’s ideas, and ultimately came up with the creative and impactful idea of a VR flight service, never seen before. However, as well as being creative, we had to critically think about this problem carefully, keeping in mind the problem and how effective it is, and how relevant it is. We had to research statistics and interview people through surveys to be as 100% sure of our idea as possible, while critically thinking of our target audience. We had to effectively communicate and collaborate with each other to get the grade that we did, and I am very very glad for the proper and healthy communication and creativity between me and my group and how our critical thinking made it successful.

In the INNOV8 Expo, my group and I faced challenges like a last-minute room change and an unexpected presentation as a result of coming as third place, which required quick adaptation and problem-solving. We were nervous, yet we overcame it together with reassurance and teamwork skills, as well as communicating with each other about what we would do. My group and I’s strengths in adaptability and teamwork, especially in this situation, were important in negotiating for materials and refining our presentation strategy on the go. We were able to confidently deliver our marketing pitch under pressure. This experience taught me and my group resilience, effective communication under stress, and the value of collaborative problem-solving in achieving success. And we were able to successfully present without major complications. Reflecting on my strengths, I’ve seen how being adaptable helped me handle unexpected changes at the INNOV8 Expo. Collaboration improved how I work with others, making our team more effective. Creativity let me find new solutions that made our project better. Critical thinking helped me analyse problems and make good decisions, which was key in overcoming challenges. These strengths have not only helped our project succeed but also boosted my confidence for future tasks. Through the Action Project, I learned that I thrive in adapting to unforeseen challenges, enjoy collaborating effectively with others to achieve common goals, and possess a knack for finding creative solutions under pressure.
