Holden is showing his feelings of a normal teenager no matter the time. especially for guys. he sees all these girls and just starts checking them out while he's waiting for his date to arrive. but he also starts feeling depressed because he starts to think about what type of guys those girls will end up with and weather or not their lives would be ruined because of it.

Holden is really testing the boundries of both his feelings and others feelings. he is starting to toy with emotions as if they are tools to be used for a prank and continues to mess with them anyway he can.

"At the end of the first act we went out with all of the other jerks for a cigarette." this quote shows that Holden is acting all grown and mature with other people and performing acts that only adults do. Holden is truly trying to make himself feel older to try and integrate himself in the world better on his own.

Boy do I hate it." this is from when Holden starts to explain that his school was the worst place he could have been. he started telling sally that he absolutely hated the school and all of the people there because of how fake they were. he started saying how he hated the fact that instead of teaching them how to pursue a pasion they taught them how to be smart enough to afford something nice one day.
