A country can't really do much if it has no way of moving around. Being a completely island nation the Japanese know what they're doing when it comes to ships.Their merchant fleet size is in the rankings of the world somewhere. In the supposed top 20 best airports two are from Japan, Haneda and Chubu International
Half of Japan's transport mode is cars in both moving people and moving material and it has 12 Motor companies including Toyota, Honda, Suzuki and Isuzu to deal with that sell cars all around the world．
The most overwhelming part of Japanese transport however is probably the trains. Often its railway usage is ranked very high and having the most used stations in the world completely filling the top 20 list. Apparently having the dedication to build the first bullet train service can get you somewhere.
<var>Japanese Yamanote line Train

</var>

Japan is a very tight country with a big density of people that is ranking pretty high in the world. Thanks to . Because of that, the cities are extremely tall and crowded with land costing up to 69,374.54 United States Dollars per sq. meter.
Japan has practically no natural resources such as oil, rubber, iron and what not. So all of that has to be imported by other nations, making it's economy pretty reliant on Processing trade, where you import raw materials to make stuff to sell and make profit.
Because the country doesn't have much land that's not mountains and almost all civilization/cities and farm were on flatland. This caused Japan to go "hey why not just shove some dirt into the sea to make land?" which mostly happened in Tokyo where 57.3 sq.km of land was made to build on which include Haneda Airport
