A common mistake among beginning English learners is that they want to translate the DO or DOES into all sentences in which they appear. I also made that mistake. But, it is not always necessary. See, for example, the sentences below:

Do you like studying English?

Does she study Spanish?

They do not live here.

He does not work on Friday.

In the above sentences we do not translate DO and DOES into Portuguese; because the two words are helping us to understand that these sentences are questions (interrogative sentences) or that we are denying something (negative sentences). As the role of "DO" and "DOES" in these sentences is to help us (auxiliary) we say that "DO" is in its function (use) auxiliary verb. See more examples:

I do my homework every afternoon.

She does the dishes.

Do you live with your parents?

Does she like this kind of book?

He does not use his computer at home.

They do not live together.

In sentences 1 and 2 we translate the words "DO" and "DOES". In the others (3 to 5), it was not necessary, since the two words are used only to aid in the formation of interrogative and negative sentences.

bibliographic source:https://www.inglesnapontadalingua.com.br/2011/01/quando-usar-do-ou-does-em-ingles.html (accessed 25/04/2018)
