There are debates over whether such resource funding are worth it or not, as following news program shows:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EipiNgMQFFE

As for its connection to nationalism it is perhaps a subtle expression, there is also a large debate about whether its promotion is a nationalist propaganda tool especially in light of the referendum. Gaelic's profile is rising although and i think it is a good thing in embracing culture and history.

On Sunday we were celebrating Africa-Day in Bangor' Museum. it was a wonderful event, organised in a wonderful collaboration between the North Down Borough Council community development department, African event organiser Nandi Jola and Worldwide women @ North Down, a multicultural, international women's group. We had a huge number of local participants and onlookers of all ages and it was a truly positive event. Visitors who hadn't known about the event were delighted to find more than they expected and the museum staff and the attached cafe were delighted with the large increase in visitors.

for people with dual nationality to be able to vote for an 'Integration Council' sounds like a great idea. As a German living in Northern Ireland (no dual nationality) I am able to vote in council elections and elections for the European Parliament but I am excluded from the Westminster elections (only for British citizens or British subjects). However, in recent months there has been a political drive to give Ethnic minorities and migrants a separate voice via an Ethic Minority Parliament: http://nicem.org.uk/news/northern-irelands-first-minority-ethnic-parliament
as a way forward which is probably similar to the 'Integration Council'. In Germany the Ethnic minorities are a different mix from those in Northern Ireland but the idea to give migrants political franchise seems to be n excellent idea to further inclusion and lessen conflict.

This course has given me much information and broadened my knowledge, especially about the issues in NI, which hitherto I had only seen through the UK Press/TV news reports. But I have never been as shocked by them as I was by the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xFuIiXMZw that Betsy Tsai noted. Whatever bigotry the two opposing factions in NI show is actually doubled as they support it by laying claim to bigotries from the Israel/Palestine conflict. Where is nationalism, let alone identity in all this? How can 'Im a British Protestant square with 'love' as was said, for a completely different country in the Middle East? Is it the same as Kennedy's famous 'Ich bin ein Berliner' (NOT meaning a doughnut)? The calm explanations, valuable as they are, given by Milena and Dominic and others, frankly seem futile in the face of what came over to me as sheer lunacy. I cling to the idea that after all, I was seeing a small minority and most people in NI are nice and sane.

My feeling is that , aside from counteracting the homophobia that still exists in the UK ( for which the pride parade plays an important role ) in an age of widespread media coverage and social networks which spread news across the globe quickly and affordably, the pride parade is an important and necessary event as it is always inclusive, even to those who are absent. Katyal has written this great and insightful article about the effects of the parade ( and opposition to it) across what she defines as the ' LGBT diaspora' as a cultural route of connectivity which can transform national politics in an age of the global
