         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students are motivated to achieve certain needs.<br>1) Biological &amp; Physiological&nbsp;<br>2) Safety<br>3) Love &amp; belonging<br>4) Esteem<br>5) Cognitive<br>6) Aesthetic<br>7) Self-actualisation<br>8) Transcendance<br><br>Students need to satisfy their lower level basic needs before<br>meeting their higher level growth needs.<br><br>Everyone is capable and has the desire to move up the hierarchy level towards self-actualisation. A person is always 'becoming' and never remains static in these terms.<br><br>Hence, application to school is that students need to feel emotional and physically safe and accepted within the classroom to progress and reach their full potential. They need to be shown that they are valued and respected and the teacher should create a supportive environment.<br><br>Self Determination Theory<br>1. Intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation<br>Intrinsic&nbsp;<br>- inherently interesting and enjoyable<br>- cognitive evaluation theory: social context leading to intrinsic motivation<br>- sense of competence and autonomy<br><br>Extrinsic&nbsp;<br>- doing something as it leads to other outcome<br>- vary greatly depending on level of autonomy<br>-&nbsp; Organismic Integration Theory (OIT)&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
