Will technology really transform education? by https://padlet.com/gordon/ggraham James M. Utterback ("Mastering the Dynamics of Innovation" (Harvard Business School Press, 1994), asserts that while technologies change, functions remain relatively stable over time. This insight has important implications for educators and learners. If we are to believe the dogma of the technological determinists, education's problems - and humanity's - are about to evaporate. I argue that a cooler-headed approach is necessary. One that considers enduring idealogical, political, social and cultural factors, yet also recognizes the importance of technological developments. A good place to start is by considering what all these new technologies actually do - that is, what is a technology's core function? This online space is designed to inspire and provoke discussion on what technology really means for education, training and learning.
