  • The Massanutten mountains were used to his advantage to make quick strikes on troops and move around them to use for cover/concealing.
  • Had a map-maker on staff named Jedidiah Hotchkiss mapped out the valley region so that he was able to see all roads, rivers, etc. giving him a considerable advantage over Union forces.
