Achievements

The Olmec were the first to do many things. They had the pleasure of making the first writing system which consisted of hieroglyphs and drawing. Another one is the calendar system which for them was a round piece of stone that had the sun god in the middle with all the ticks equaling to 365 days.

Trade

The Olmecs traded goods like obsidian, rubber, and even jade. They traded a variety of goods and created many connections.

Craft

With the trades, the Olmec took the supplies to craft attire and jewelry. Jade was used to make beautiful bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Feathers and beads were used to make headdresses for their leaders. The Olmecs took great care in the craft and it played an important part in their history.

Agriculture

The Mayans were very smart with how they produced their food. Although having enough space built, terraces were made to produce more food for their people. These terraces consisted of corn, beans, and squash.

Rulers

For the Mayans, they thought their rulers could influence the gods. They would go as far as sacrificing animals and sometimes people to keep them happy. The gods needed blood to keep them happy and prevent a national disaster.

Religion

The Aztecs believed in multiple gods and believed they each served a certain purpose. For example, Huitzilopotchli the sun god, or Tezcatlipoca is the god of night. For them sacrificing people was a regular thing because it kept the gods happy. They did this to prevent storms or earthquakes which meant the gods were unhappy.

Entertainment

The Aztecs had a sport called Tachii which was like basketball but sacrificed more. You had to throw a rubber ball made from the trees in the forest into a tall hoop to score and whoever lost was killed. We see all the people who were lost with lots of skulls carved into the wall.

Overview: Mesoamerica

In summary, the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs made significant contributions to Mesoamerican culture. It seems without lots of communication their culture and way of life seemed to be semi-similar. Besides that, they still had a different way of living like religious practices, Agriculture, and attire. To this day we continue to marvel at their advancement and wonder how they would be if their cities thrived in society today.
