Madenli Ortaokulu (Gökçe BERBER)

Aliağa was established in the Aiolis region, where the most important civilizations of human history were established throughout history. Kyme and Myrina, two of the cities of Aiolis, are located within the borders of Aliağa district today. While Aliağa was a farm in the Ottoman period, it turned into a small village in the process, and a fishermen's town since 1937 in the Republican period. Aliağa was chosen as a suitable place for industrialization in accordance with the first five-year development plan that was put into practice in the 1960s, and has started to come to the fore with its industrial identity since that date. While it was affiliated to Menemen until these years, it gained the status of a district in 1982.

Now a thriving harbour town, Fethiye is one of Turkey‘s well-known tourist centres and in the last ten years has become a magnet for British citizens. Apart from its climate and natural beauty, the Britons are attracted by its less expensive lifestyle and the hospitality of the local people. The British population in Turkey is between 34,000 and 38,000. As a result of the large British population and the high numbers of Britons going there for holiday, Fethiye-Öludeniz was chosen as the best tourism centre in the world by The Times and The Guardian newspapers in 2007. Over 7,000 British citizens permanently live in Fethiye property, while approximately 600,000 British tourists visit the town every summer.

Fethiye has a Mediterranean climate consisting of very hot, long and dry summers with an average of 34°C (93°F) in the daytime, winters are cool and rainy with a daytime average of 16°C (61°F). Today the Fethiye Region encompasses many areas (as described below), each with their own atmosphere and style. Though the Region has grown considerably in the last ten years, it will never become the size of many of the European holiday destinations due to the natural limitation of the area. The Region is surrounded by a pine clad mountain range, all of this area is protected and no development is allowed which means that Fethiye can continue to improve and update its existing platform while keeping its original character and beauty.

After the 1957 earthquake in particular during the reconstruction works of the city, some movable artifacts unearthed in the foundations began to be exhibited as an open-air museum in and around the current harbor. The works that were exhibited only visually in this way under the control of the Ministry of National Education were gathered in a few rooms on the ground floor of the Mayorship building as a result of the formation of the Ministry of Culture and the museums were attached to this ministry and gained a scientific position under the name of the Museum Office.

As a result of the increase in the number of works acquired in various ways in Fethiye and its surroundings, the construction of the museum building we are now in started in 1982 and was completed and opened to visit in 1987. It is aimed to exhibit the artifacts gained from the excavations in the areas within the control areas of the museum through purchasing and restraint (forced) in a modern environment. The exhibition halls and the garden were renewed and opened to visitors again. Most of the works exhibited are ceramic works. The works in the hall follow a chronological order. In our museum, where there are works covering the period from 3000 B.C to the Ottoman period, it is possible to see artifacts unique to the Lycian region, such as the Trilingual Inscription (Lycian-Greek-Aramaic), Izraza Monument, Bilingual Inscription (Carian-Greek) and the offerings dedicated to the god-hero Kakasbos.

Mapaura, which was located in the cultural area of Colchis and the settlement area of the old Laz in ancient times, came under the rule of the Roman Empire in the 1st century AD. As a result of the Laz Wars in the 6th century, it gained the distinction of being the last settlement point of the Roman/Byzantine Empire on the Black Sea coast. After the temporary disintegration of the Byzantine Empire in 1204, during the period of the Greek Empire established in Trabzon, Mapaura/Mapavri remained the last stronghold of the Greek rule in the east. In 1461, II. It came under Turkish rule after Mehmed (Fatih) annexed the state of Trabzon to the Ottoman lands. For the next 50 years, Mapavri was the border point of the Ottoman Empire on the Black Sea coast.

In 1622, it was attacked and plundered by Abaza pirates. In Kamasü'l-Alam, Şemsettin Sami speaks of Mapavri as "a township in the Rize district of the Lazistan sanjak of the Trabzon province".

The region, which was under Russian occupation for two years during the First World War, came under Turkish rule again on March 9, 1918. The coastal road connecting the district to Rize was built during the Russian occupation.

Mapavri became a township in 1878 with the name of Çaybaşı in 1944. The name was later changed to Çayeli.
