Fethiye has a Mediterranean climate consisting of very hot, long and dry summers with an average of 34°C (93°F) in the daytime, winters are cool and rainy with a daytime average of 16°C (61°F). Today the Fethiye Region encompasses many areas (as described below), each with their own atmosphere and style. Though the Region has grown considerably in the last ten years, it will never become the size of many of the European holiday destinations due to the natural limitation of the area. The Region is surrounded by a pine clad mountain range, all of this area is protected and no development is allowed which means that Fethiye can continue to improve and update its existing platform while keeping its original character and beauty.

    It arose from the construction of several farmhouses at the beginning of the 18th century, which was then the municipality of Mora de Ebro and was originally called Els Masos de Móra. It was separated from the municipality in 1830 and its growth accelerated after the arrival of the railway and the construction of a station in the town.

There are 180 large and small bays and gulfs within the borders of Fethiye. At the same time, there are 18 islands in the district. As a result of the increase in the number of works acquired in various ways in Fethiye and its surroundings, the construction of the museum building we are now in started in 1982 and was completed and opened to visit in 1987. It is aimed to exhibit the artifacts gained from the excavations in the areas within the control areas of the museum through purchasing and restraint (forced) in a modern environment. The exhibition halls and the garden were renewed and opened to visitors again. Most of the works exhibited are ceramic works. The works in the hall follow a chronological order. In our museum, where there are works covering the period from 3000 B.C to the Ottoman period, it is possible to see artifacts unique to the Lycian region, such as the Trilingual Inscription (Lycian-Greek-Aramaic), Izraza Monument, Bilingual Inscription (Carian-Greek) and the offerings dedicated to the god-hero Kakasbos.

Daedala Ruins 

There are steps, giant cistern and castle walls in the ruins found in Daedala Ancient City around Inlice Neighborhood on the Fethiye and Muğla highway. On the western side of the ruins, there are rock tombs that are estimated to be from the Lycian Period.

Fethiye King Tombs Ruins, also known as Amintas Rock Tombs, are structures that have survived since the 4th century BC. The tombs in the rocks were made by carving the rocks suitable for processing and have a magnificent view.The rock tombs built for high-status people and commanders can be reached by climbing a 100-step ladder. "Herpamiasoğlu Amintas" was written on the tomb with the alphabet of the period. Although it is not known who this person was, it is thought that he was the most powerful or wealthy person of the time he died.

Ancient City Ruins in Kadyanda 

The ruins found near Yeşilüzümlü Neighborhood, which is approximately 34 kilometers from Fethiye district center, have survived from approximately the 5th century BC to the present day.There are not many ruins left from the ancient city until today. However, it has a magnificent view. Small sarcophagi, chambers and stone walls can be seen.

Pınara Ancient City Ruins

Pınara Ancient City is one of the ancient cities built on a giant hillside. The ancient city, located in Yakabağ Neighborhood, 45 kilometers from the center, is on the Lycian Way.
The ancient city, which was destroyed by the great earthquake in the 8th century AD, contains the rock and sarcophagus tomb, bath, theater agora and Odeon.

Goat meat is favourite kind of meat in this area. Also you can find delicious goat milk ice cream. Keşkek, Arabaşı etc is tradational meals in Turkey and every part cooks it by their way. You would love pancakes prepared with local herbs.

Aigai (Aeolis) Ancient City:

Aigai are some ruins located in the province of Manisa. It was established on the Gün Mountain in the Yund Mountain Range. It was named Aspordene in ancient times. Today, Yund Mountain is managed located within the provincial borders of Manisa and İzmir. The museum is priceless and you can enter for free.

Another unique Manisa food which is made only from lamb, is Kuzu Gerdan Dolması (stuffed neck of lamb).

Another flavour to taste would be the bread stuffed with ground meat and spices called Ekmek Dolması. 

Sinkonta, the oven baked pumpkin with onions and tomatoes and Höşmerim, delicious dessert made of unsalted goat cheese are other famous specialties from Manisa. A lot of sugar is sprinkled on a pide (a traditional bakery like pita) that came right out of the oven and served after it cools down; this specialty is called Kula Şekerli Pidesi.

Alaşehir Kapaması is a kind of fried dumplings served in broth and butter.

Mesir Macunu (a paste consisting of 41 kinds of herbs and spices) is another traditional savour from Manisa cuisine. It is believed it has healing qualities. 

Thanks to its fertile soil, Manisa is also known by the quality of its fruits and vegetables. Aegean Sultana Grape is one of the most famous fruits of the region. It is sweeter and more elliptical than other grapes.

Kırkağaç melon, cultivated in Kırkağaç District for 600 years, is the only melon in Türkiye that is registered as geographical indication.

Akhisar simit ekmeği (bagel bread),  cevizli lokum (walnuts dipped in grape molasses), Akhisar katmeri (flannel-cake), kabartma  (a kind of patty), sura (lamb shoulder or rack stuffed with herbs and rice), tavşan çullama (rabbit fritters), ateş pidesi (pita on iron plate), şevket-i bostan (holy thistle with shallots and lamb), Kula güveci (lamb stew in casserole), stuffed courgette blossoms, gelincik böreği (poppy leaves pastry), Cevizli Kulak (walnut raviolis), bakla dizmesi (horse beans in olive oil), tripe soup with chickpeas, hanımgöbeği (literally “lady’s navel”, deep fried choux in syrup), olives and olive oil from Akhisar, shambali (semolina cakes in syrup) from Turgutlu are other tastes to discover.

Letoon: It is a sanctuary located near the ancient city of Xanthos. It was one of the most important religious centers in the region.

Ölemeç Soup which is made by adding finely chopped onions, ground pepper and water after boiling and adding dough balls, comes first in Fethiye among delicious starters with high nutritional value.

Leğen(basin) pastry, which is made by filling the dough with the consistency of bread made in the size of a tray, is prepared according to taste and preference, and is among the foods that are frequently made in the villages of Fethiye. It goes well with freshly brewed tea 🙂

Sılcan grass, a herb unique to Muğla, is one of the favorite grass varieties of Fethiye residents. The herb, which is a type of ivy, is cleaned and chopped, then roasted with olive oil, and optionally, eggs are broken on it or consumed by mixing it with yoghurt. If you are a light meal lover, sillage is just for you 🙂 

Another famous grass of Muğla Fethiye is yellow grass. It is not known whether it got its name from the color of its stems or the yellow-colored water that comes out while boiling, but its flavor amazes many people. After being cleaned and boiled, the herb is roasted with onions in olive oil and served with spices if desired. Yellow herb, which is known to be good for rheumatism, is one of the must-taste dishes in Fethiye for those who want to eat healthy.

When talking about Fethiye cuisine, it is impossible not to mention artichokes. It will be a different pleasure to taste the beauties of the olive oil poured on the beautifully boiled artichokes and the seasonal vegetables roasted in olive oil in the air of Fethiye.

ÇAYELİ NATURAL LIFE MUSEUM The museum was established in 2012 by the children of Ahmet Hamdi İshakoğlu, in order to introduce the past life of Çayeli and Rize, and was handed over to the Çayeli Municipality. In 2015, it was given special museum status by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums. In the museum, the past life of Çayeli and Rize and the tools and equipment used are exhibited. The mannequins exhibited in the museum were molded from the faces of the local people. The artifacts exhibited in the museum are the items used by the local people in the past.
