She wanted to tell other 16 and 17 year olds about how they could register early to vote before they were 18. She wanted all voices to be heard through voting and thought registering early was the best way to encourage other people about their right to vote. In my research I focused on the words “tell others” and thought about how a megaphone would symbolize that idea best. I saw photographs of Xitlali, she had long curly dark hair, so I thought a silhouette of her holding a megaphone would best represent her bold voice informing other people they can register early. I looked at the word vote and then I saw the word teen and thought they both share the “TE” so maybe I could use that as a catchy way to get her message across. Register early under the VO-TEEN really helped with her main purpose of getting people to know that they could vote early. I liked the idea of using stars smaller in the background for a patriotic feel. 
For my 2 complimentary colors I used a purply blue and orange that when they were mixed gave me different color ranges of yellows and teals. I like the purple and orange because they reminded me of Xitalli’s Energy and passion to get the word out for teens to register to vote early.

In my painting I decided to include a calendar with a date of 1923 saying denied to vote. Texas created a law that said black people couldnt vote because it was an all white primary. I then put an arrow pointing to 1944 with a voting sign, because he was able to vote 20 years later. Since all of them reminded me of the color blue, that is the color I wanted to use for most of my painting, lots of different shades and tints of blue. I also wanted to incorporate the color brown because I think that both colors brown and blue compliment each other nicely. I hope people notice the different shades of red used in my painting. I used red specifically to show the energy of violence and anger in this rebelling protest. I wanted to not only show the protest itself but the aura that came with it. Aracely waited for hours in line and luckily was able to cast her ballot, though many people behind her were denied this opportunity. The line of people and hourglass indicate that this wasn't a quick and easy process like it should be. While I was doing research on Aracely, I found a picture of a young woman crying because she was one of those people denied the chance to vote. I used her for the main part of the piece in the front.
