I really enjoyed learning about the aboriginal people and how they lived according to nature. In particular the videos we watched of the huts made, and the rivers with brocades for the water to flow in, formed from the volcanic eruption, I'm pretty sure.

my assessment task 3 was based on the mabo decision, what i like about this class is that it made me research things that i would not normally research and thus expand my knowledge. the mabo decision is one i connected with most because even after completing it i spent the next several days reflecting on everything i've learned, i really felt the impact of that research.

Along with that, due to assessment task 2 "should uluru be reopened" i was able to learn the true importance of sacred culture in aboriginal culture, focusing in on "sacred" before this class it honestly didn't mean much to me or even make me think twice, but ever since completing the assessment my understanding of sacred culture has vastly improved

in summary, i was given the opportunity to research and learn about things i wouldn't normally learn about... and i'm very glad i had the opportunity to do so.

It's been valuable to learn about the darker aspects of the Aussie mythos, like the reality of the egalitarian "fair go" Australia. It was also fascinating to learn about Aboriginal oral history extending back with remarkable accuracy to thousands or tens of thousands of years ago. I didn't think that it was even possible, and a part of me still can't quite wrap my head around it.

Assessment 3 was a good pointer to direct me to learn more about Australia and my chosen topic. Assessment 2 was excellent in that respect as well. Encouraging independent research is important. When I started the assessment, I thought I would have the opposite viewpoint to the one I ended up writing.

In terms of what I'd change, I think I'd prefer focusing on the contemporary situation a little more and looking more outwards to see our place in the world with a clearer lens.

it was interesting to learn more about how Aboriginal people live and about their connection to the land. The 2nd assessment really made me think about how little I knew about their connection to the land and how sacred Uluru is to them and how closing the climb will help to preserve their culture. I enjoyed learning more about the Stolen Generation and the mistreatment of Indigenous people at the time. It was especially informative to hear about it from those who actually experienced this by watching the testimonies in week 4.

I've learned alot of interesting information in regards to Australia's history, starting from a settler colonial project the one thing that stood out for me was the week on the convicts and their general character. Australia's founding as a supposed egalitarian society is definitely something that stood out for me as I research alot of Australian labour history and how this affected the first settlers and convicts. I realised how much their character influences contemporary Australia in our mannerisms and especially the anti-authoritarian views. I also enjoyed the classes on the First Nations people of this continent and how their struggle for land rights still continues.
Always Was, Always Will Be!

I believe that what I took away the most from this subject is that there is more to australia than most people percieve it, and how it's role in an international perpsective has changed drastically over the past 200 years, I also throughly enjoyed the discussions that occured between the students and teachers and the constant interjections by phil. I think going away from this subject I would be inclined to have a more respectful and evidential view on australian history unlike previously where i thoguht it was quite a dull and close to useless topic to discuss
