Q3 - How did the other people on the bus react to what had happened?

B.S -- The people on the bus reacted in several ways. Some asked questions like “why didn’t you see the hole?” This shows that the people might have be asking whether he was feeling alright, as he did something he would not normally have done. We also know that he was the topic of conversation with some people as the American’s friend whispered “they’re talking about you”. This tells us that this accident happening may have been something strange in their eyes or that the professor may have been talking to the students to ask them not to stare or laugh to prevent the American feeling insecure.

The other people on the bus reacted with surprise as they
were wondering how he could not see the latrine when he was walking. The person in charge of looking after the group
and keeping them safe was furious as he didn’t go where the rest of them were,
and where it was dry and safe. The American was wondering what it would be like
if it there were no people with him, as when he was with a group of people he
managed to walk into a latrine, and thought that something worse will happen if
he was on his own. When he finally boarded the bus again, he saw all of the
Chinese students and professors talking about the incident that he had just
suffered.

The passengers were staring at the man and

whispering amongst themselves and the bus driver
hastily put the man’s bag in the out side compartment.

The passengers on the bus reacted with more of a confused
reaction when they saw this tourist, as he boarded the bus, passengers stare as
well as whisper about the ‘American Man` among themselves …described as Moses,
portrays the American man feeling uncomfortable, different and weak or powerful.

The American had been on a long dreadfully journey through
china for 10 painful hours, the bus was crowded, but they had finally come to a
Holt. The driver had stopped the bus at a latrine (a toilet facility), so his passengers
could relieve themselves. An incident occurred where the American had feel into
the latrine. The people around him were concerned by what happened they were
firing questions at him such as “why didn’t you see the hole”…, however this
showed the American that in some way they cared about the terror he had just
been through and that they cared about his feelings and safety but you could
tell by some of their reactions that the smell was not quite pleasing. The
person in charge was wondering why he didn’t go to the clean spot like rest of
the people, also when he was boarding the bus all the students and professors
where talking about the incident that had just occurred.
