To me, this concept does not seem like an unreasonable request. But alas, the year is 2018 and women are still fighting for the right to be considered equal to their male counterparts. This was a pretty impactful speech at the time, and I think Emma was able to articulate the definition and reasoning for feminism wonderfully. She addressed the stigma behind the word feminist, and how it is a title we should all proudly adopt. Helen Mirren is featured in one of the artifacts reinforcing idea that feminist is not a nasty word, and that without the movement women today would be living a very different life. Another artifact that represents the misconceptions related to feminism is the interview with Terry Crews. He emphasizes that feminism is not "women are better than men" or "women hate men," but rather the belief in equality. It has recently been made public that Michelle Williams was paid almost 1/10^th of what her male co-star Mark Wahlberg was paid in a film. The justified uproar that followed resulted in Mark Wahlberg publicly voicing his support and donating his wage to the Time’s Up movement. Will that miraculously fix the internal issues within the industry and solve the wage gap? Probably not, but it was an honorable gesture and did bring attention to the issue at hand. The other video artifact I included is a relatively recent speech given by Reese Witherspoon. She stresses the importance of women being represented, especially in leadership roles. The artifacts that I included embody what feminism is to me. It is pretty simple: I believe in equal rights.
