Ratliff in his chapter describes it is " In singing or in playing, it gives the listener a secure, jacketed feeling". This musical element in all types of music is in a way smoothness and how the music flows, its the comfortability of the song to a listeners ears. i dont agree with ratliffs arguments. Frankly im not sure closeness is the right term for this musical element. he explains it as may things but they have no relation to the word closeness. personaly i think the musical element should be called flow or comfortability, I say this because the way he talks about this element is two musicians in the purest condition to sort of drown out the rest of the other elements
