Today our focus was listening. We developed some knowledge and abilities about designing pre-,while- and post listening tasks. We talked about differentation to offer practical solutions to possible challenges we face when teaching listening. We highlighted that good preparation is the key for our listening activities. We should set a goal first, build their knowledge, prepare an environment and then introduce the topic.First we named some problems and tried to find solutions with the given activities. We learned how to differentiate the activities to make them suitable for sts' levels. We compared authentic and coursebook materials.I was using both besides I will use them more effectively from now on.The most important part of it was making sts active listeners.
I will use suggested warm up activities we presented today with some ICQs, both for my classes and PDC meetings.Because listening is the most essential skill among the others.
Todays session gave me some useful ideas and techniques to use. They are appropriate and beneficial for listening activities.

First of all,I should state that,on the contrary to general thought, the most common problem with the speaking classes is not the crowded classes or unwillingness of students. If we want to teach speaking,we teach.A good teacher finds a way anyway, she adjusts, she differentiates..etc.
To me,the most common problem is cultural and behavioral obstacles. Most of the students and parents even teachers are unaware of their duties and unconcerned.Due to their ages,(i have 5 graders this year)they have a very limited motivation span. They want fun in the classes, they prefer easy and enjoyable activities .They need to acquire and use the languge, there must be enough exposure to L2 and then they can have the courage to speak, teachers should speak English as much as possible and make the classroom environment suitable for them and be a good model.
With regard to these, today's sessions will be very useful and provide me some chance to cope up with these problems.I will digitise and differentiate the tasks and activities.I will use Flipgrid app for homework and project assignments at the end of units ,they will speak freely and willingly. As each of them will have a digital portfolio, this will be a better digital tool for me.(I use lots of different web 2 tools for my lesson plans.)And as the students are on the center of learning and they are younger ones,I will use chatterpix and voki for educators as well.As a teacher ,my first duty is to encourage and motivate them.I will give them some stepping stones and make them feel valuable. Many thanks to your contributions to our professional development.

For my students,I start with product activities, for example i provide them a sample text and they introduce themselves by making id cards including:Name ,surname, age, country,Nationality.I have some students from different countries.they write short texts about themselves but soon we have products. As they are beginners and 5 graders they can write short texts first, telling about themselves, then their likes and dislikes.I use self, peer ,teacher correction respectively. At the beginning of the term we make word boxes and add all new vocabulary in it by making mini flashcards,i remind them take your box and check your words regularly. You can ask your friends the meaning of the word and they can check it for you. They use this activity like a game, who gives more correct answer,s/he wins.I give this as a homework because all have brothers or sisters and they are neighbours,so they can use their word boxes. In my district, they even dont know how to express themselves in Turkish. So they need more practice with writing. We use Web2 tools as much asIpossible.Sometimes I send homework from WhatsApp and ask them only one question, they give an answer and write may be only one word or one sentence.I use snack activities.and as post reading, the students bring their id cards to class and present them .This year we started like this and they enjoyed it very much.

As students' language development progresses, I move on to guided and freer activities after first starting with controlled ones. Additionally, as the 8th graders are test-oriented and will be taking the exam, the activities are more supervised. However, I am more adaptable in other groups since there are more English lessons and I employ guided and freer activities.
