Text Feature Scoot

Text Feature Scoot is where there are cards spread around the room and they have arrows that point to the text feature that it wants us to guess. Then when we are done finding text features we tally how many a’s , b’s , c’s and d’s there are. And whichever answer there is the most there is a item on the paper for so you buy that item and a soda. The purpose of learning text features was so we know what text features are for.

Yesterday we learned about paraphrasing. It is when we reed something and put it in our own words like sharks have big teeth and a long tale. We could paraphrase that to make it into our own words like, sharks have fascinating senses. Or bears are big and tall and live in the forest. If we change it we could change it to, bears are gigantic creatures that live in the forest. We do it so we don’t copy other people's work or research.

When we played that game we were basically writing words that have ou and ow in them at the the team leader tells the other team leader doesn't have the word that you read, you circle the word. If the word that you circled has 3 ,4 letters you get 1 point ,5 =2 points, 6=3, 7=4 and 8+ equals 9 points. If both teams have the word, you cross that word out. Your team keeps score of your team’s points. We did this so we could learn how to read better.

This week we learned the difference between facts and opinion, facts are small pieces of information, and a opinion is what someone thinks, here’s an example… ...let’s say someone says you're dog is ugly ,that is what they think so it is an opinion.let's say someone says dogs have four legs that tells a short piece of info so it's a fact we did this so when you read something for a project you might find a opinion like ...the food is great ...and if you use it people might think you’re wrong and that’s why we learned this lesson.
