We have morphed from a world of mass production to specialized requests and highly skilled, targeted labor. 

In this week's readings, videos, and lectures we are shown how work has advanced in technology, globalization, and perception. As all of these continue to grow, change, and advance, it is vital that we as individuals advance as well without losing sight of the value of the person. 

High demands in the global employment marketplace still call for collaboration and the willingness for flexibility within ourselves. In today's world, no matter your position of employment, we are all faced with the challenges to change with the times and keep up. We must adapt and grow!

They are forced to venture into the employment market with skills that are deemed to be irrelevant. 

Billy and Nick find themselves near a dead-end when seeking new employment until Billy has the crazy idea to apply for an internship at Google. During their interview process, they rely on completely made-up credentials and confusing banter in order to land the position. They are constantly challenged with technology, terminology, and skills that they aren't accustomed to. Their adaptation is relentless and motivating as they use the skills they do have to pull their team to the top rankings of the intern-game challenges to win permanent employment with Google.

These "smart machines" have absorbed many work­ers' jobs and replaced human hands with robotic pincers that move with exacting precision. Computers also have spawned new markets for software and hardware, creating new jobs requiring new skills.” (Sweet, 27). This quote is the exact journey that Billy and Nick go on in The Internship. 

We are currently taking part in a revolution that has been led by the creation of computers and the internet and so many things have changed in the working world as a direct result of that.

“Keeping up with the times” has never been as important as it is now. “Understanding the new, the old, and the old in the new is the key to understanding the diverse needs and experiences of
today's workforce.” (Sweet, 28). 

How we conduct business is ever changing. So much business is done without ever interacting with another human, but that human interaction isn’t gone. We are in this in between stage where we have to understand and be able to do both.

How does technology affect us? How has COVID affected us in the workforce and what has it shown to the bigger companies?

Are the themes in The Internship still true today? Or have we changed in the way we are being more open and accepting of technology?

All the questions tie into how technology affects this generation, our jobs, and our abilities to adapt to the forward progression of technology into the workforce.

There were many discussions on the workforce, COVID, and technology. Since the pandemic forced many people to work from home, technology became essential for workers and students. The main point was, is technology an advancement, a hinderance, or both?

One obvious ever-changing reality is technology. Evolving arguably every second, technology can be hard to keep up with as demonstrated in The Internship. The readings, videos, and lectures this course has examined further illustrate the relationship of work to advancements in technology and globalization and how from that we are more interconnected than ever. Technology has allowed us to reach any and everyone though much of the time a technological connection differs from one face-to-face. Nearly every, if not all, industry continues to be influenced by technological advancements making for a work revolution of sorts that has made for a different world of work than even 5, 10 years ago. Adaptation has been a necessary skill in most industries though in this day and age it’s a requirement as our jobs are all influenced by something so dynamic.
