According to the Heart Failure, Palpitaion and Treadmill Test, "There was a significant effect of age on the overall level of understanding of jargons and of specific jargons". The number of people who were familiar of the jargons ranged from 10% to 96% among the 11 jargons. Yet, the jargons' mean ratings ranged only from 0 to 2 on a scale of 0-5. Respondents in the youngest age bracket (18-45 years) reported considerably lower levels of jargon understanding than their elder counterparts (46–60 and 61–80 years). Thus, jargon-heavy cardiologist communication is failing to reach patients, particularly young individuals.
