Overproduction is a key component of Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Overproduction occurs when a species reproduces too quickly, leading to a lack of resources in an environment, which often leaves an ecosystem struggling due to insufficient resources.
It affects the whole food web of that environment in a negative way, often leading to populations of all species dying off.
An example of this would be the rabbits in Australia: there are so many rabbits, that most other plant-eating animals die off or even go extinct because they lack the food that they need. Eventually, the rabbits will start dying as well due to lack of resources, and it is disruptive and destructive to any environment.
To prevent this, species populations should remain stable. This is possible when the older generations die off to make room for new generations and only a small fraction of offspring will live long enough to reproduce. It needs to remain in a stable cycle of life and death.
