Rubrics help students take ownership of their learning because when a well-designed rubric should be used as a tool for completing an assignment to the standard that the teacher expects. If the rubric has clear goals, students should have no room for error based off of the instruction.

The key elements of a well-designed rubric are specificity, clarity, and content alignment. Students should be able to know and understand exactly what the goal is based off of the rubric and the assignment should align with what has been taught in the classroom.

Rubrics can be used to provide feedback that fosters a growth mindset, because each grade or scoring area will have a clear explanation of what the strengths and weaknesses are. For example, if a rubric has a scoring system of 0-4 points, each point category should have a clear definition of what they did well and how they can improve.

Rubrics help students take ownership of their learning by allowing them to know exactly what they need to do to get their desired grade. Their grade is literally laying before them and they have to do the work to meet it. Key elements of a well designed rubric are fair and clear expectations, point values, and sections that are not up for interpretation. Rubrics should challenge students to do more and leave opportunities for exploration that will foster growth mindsets.

Rubrics help students know exactly what you are looking for in each assignment, and they also hold them accountable. They can not come back and say "I didn't know that was in there". It also allows them to kind of range how well they are doing on something by looking at the rubric, and comparing it to the assignment.Key elements for a well designed rubric is specific, and clear expectations. Make sure it is fair, and that there are distinct performance levels. rubric can help provide feedback because if they have clear exceptions on the rubric. You can explain why they did not meet the next level. Allows for growth in areas that they may be struggling on the assignment. They can look back at it, and remember it for the net assignment

Some key elements for a well designed rubric is using student friendly language and easy to follow. If students do not understand the language of the rubric it is useless because they can not use it for ownership of their learning. Rubrics can be used to provide feedback that fosters a growth mindset because if the students do not receive a perfect score you can go over the rubric with them and explain the reason why thet did not get a perfect score.

When students know where they are expected to be in the learning process, it is then placed directly into their hands and they are unable to put their learning on someone else. This gives them the responsibility to assess their learning and get help if that's what they determine they need.

All well-designed rubrics must be extremely clear. Students should have no struggle to understand the expectations we are giving them. They should also all have exact criteria. Rubrics are designed to tell the students exactly what you are looking for from them.

Rubrics can be used to encourage growth mindsets because it gives students a perspective on where they are at and where they need to go. Seeing what you got on a rubric versus what the teacher wanted allows students to see where specifically growth needs to take place.
