The movement had marxists roots but declared it's allegiance to the US in 1953,&nbsp;<br><br>Christine Jorgensen becomes the first publicly known transgender women (1952). She was a serviceman that served in the US Army during WW2 before becoming a "blonde bombshell,’ the symbol of 1950s white feminine sexuality".&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During the time the novel is set, it was considered unacceptable to be gay or have any relations with the same sex. If a person was to come out as gay, they would be ostracised from society. This is exemplified by Skipper, who ends up drinking himself to death. The upheld values of society include producing children to continue the family lineage, as well as eventually finding a husband or a wife. During this time, it was also considered unacceptable to be single, as that would mean you would have no one to carry on your lineage. Thus, Big Daddy and Big Mama try to find and persuade their children to get married and have their grandchildren. Big Daddy also needs someone to pass on his estate to.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
