         <description><![CDATA[<div>The cartoonist is really stating the obvious, a lot time we don't use common sense. Individuals a lot of the time look at people with handicaps as sub human and they can wait until the "normal" children are taken care of. Where if we find a solution that takes care of everyone it is usually the best solution, in the first place.</div>]]></description>

The cartoonist is trying to point out that while the boy in the wheelchair needs the ramp and cant use the stairs everyone can use the ramp.  if the building is accessible for wheelchairs then it is accessible for everyone.accommodations can benefit all students not just the student that requires special help.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.) The cartoonist is trying to state that everyone can use a ramp, but not everyone can use the stairs. This is the same for our UDL lesson plans.<br>2.) I would say it's hard for a lesson plan to be universally diverse as the ramp is all inclusive. The spectrum of kids we will have will make it difficult, but as teachers we need to work hard to make this "all inclusive" lessons. However, we can craft our lesson plans to use technology to include everyone in the discussion.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Sometimes, you're so focused on trying to help the majority, that you forget there's ways to help everyone at once.&nbsp;<br>2. One example was when a teacher in a first grade class used a microphone to speak through because there was a partially deaf student. Not only did it help the student who had hearing problems, it also made sure everyone could hear the teacher, regardless of where they were in the classroom or what they were doing. This shows what the student in the wheelchair was trying to point out. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. When assistive technologies or accommodations are made ALL students benefit. Instead of teaching to the average student, teach to the perimeters and catch the middle. All students deserve equitable education. Everyone will benefit from equitable education -- "average" students as well as students with disabilities.<br>2. This supports the "every man for himself" method. While young students watch an adult authority figure putting their needs before the needs of students with disabilities they may internalize these actions and display those actions themselves. Children are susceptible and may learn that treating students with disabilities as "secondary citizens" is permitted and they may put their needs before the needs of students with disabilities that have different struggles from them. </div>]]></description>
