         <description><![CDATA[<p>Instead of presenting isolated formulas, I would introduce mathematical concepts through <strong>authentic, real-world problems</strong> that require students to understand the underlying principles to solve. For example, In my school, 9th-grade students undertake a "estudo de campo," which is a trip to another Brazilian city called <strong>Serra da Canastra</strong>, located in Minas Gerais and surrounded by the <strong>Cerrado biome</strong>. The mathematics activity involves calculating the heights of several waterfalls using a <strong>theodolite</strong>. Students collect data on the linear distance from their position to the base of each waterfall and then use the theodolite to measure the angle of elevation to the top of the waterfalls. Back at school, they <strong>model the situation</strong> and use values from a trigonometric table to perform calculations with <strong>trigonometric ratios</strong>. I'll add an attachment with the activity written in Portuguese.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I'd design lessons that encourage students to discover mathematical concepts themselves rather than being directly taught. This could start with an intriguing question, a set of data, or a visual pattern. For instance, when introducing geometric transformations, students could experiment with shapes on a coordinate plane using dynamic geometry software (just like geogebra or desmos), observing how different operations affect their position and orientation, and then deduce the rules of translation, rotation, and reflection. This inquiry-driven approach allows students to build their own understanding, connect new knowledge to prior learning, and truly grasp the <em>essence</em> of the concept through active exploration and critical thinking</p>]]></description>

This includes verbal explanations, symbolic notation, graphical representations, diagrams, and manipulatives. For example, when teaching quadratic functions, students would not only work with the algebraic equation (y=ax²+bx+c) but also analyze its graph, discuss its real-world applications (like projectile motion), and understand how changes in the coefficients impact the parabola's shape and position.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Instead of giving steps right away, I let students explore patterns. For example, when introducing sequences I have them look for rules in number patterns before I explain the formal notation. This way they build the idea themselves.</p>]]></description>
