Brothers Grimm Version

In this version of the story it was not quite like the versions we all heard as kids. The Brothers Grimm made it more relatable by writing in events that could happen to actual people. First Cinderella's mother dies and her father remarrying to an awful lady with two daughters. When they arrive they treat Cinderella like trash and take all her dresses away as well as her jewelry. When his father goes away he asks his daughter as well as his step daughters what they would like him to bring back as gifts for them the two step daughters reply first saying "Beautiful dresses" and "Pearls and Jewels" but Cinderella replies with a simple request for just the first branch that brushes her fathers hat. When he returns she takes this branch and places it in the ground above her mothers grave and begins to cry on it. The small branch then turns into a large tree with two white doves in it. These two doves are significant because throughout the whole story the doves help out cinderella with what ever she needs. After this the family gets an invite to the Princes party so that he can find his wife. Cinderella becomes ecstatic about going. But her stepmother tells her that she cannot go because she has work to do at home and she would have nothing to wear. When Cinderella proves herself by doing all the work with the help of the birds her step-mother still says no because she has no dresses to wear. So Cinderella becomes very sad and goes to the tree on her mother's grave and begins to cry and beg for a beautiful dress. The birds let down a dress, shoes, and jewelry. This makes Cinderella very happy. She then attends three nights in a row of the festival, each night facing with the Prince the whole time. Escaping him at the end of the night to hide her identity. Eventually he ends of at her house with the shoe she left behind on the last night. The shoe did not fit any of the stepsisters or the step mother so Cinderella was last and he knew as soon as he saw her that she was the one. They then get married and the step sisters tend the wedding and the doves from the tree peck out their eyes, and Cinderella and her prince live happily ever after. The tone of this story would be compassionate because the authors uses words like “good, pious” and used white doves to resemble god. Overall, they does not use any negative connotations. Cinderella is portrayed as humble and kind. She was also very loyal. She would always do what she was told without complaining. She really cared about others even if they were mean to her. Since she was religious, she had good morals. She always visited her mom’s grave which shows her compassion. The story is told through a narrators pov. We could tell because the authors used words such as she, he, and they.

Another Cinderella Story

This movie was made to have a more teenage and modern day appeal. It still has basically the same storyline of the original, but the events and details make it different. Mary is the main character in this story and her mom had died when she was younger so her mom's boss took her in to basically do all of the dirty work around the house. Mary's stepmother and sisters all treat her with disrespect and make her do the chores. Mary goes to the school ball and dances with Joey parker (the famous singer) but has to be home before midnight. They all wore masks at the dance so nobody knew who was who. When she is running out of the ball room, she drops her ipod and joey finds it. He begins to search for the girl who dropped the ipod and he finally figures out it was Mary. They end up being together in the end and they go to a dancing school together. The tone of this movie would be formal because the writer intended for it to be a teenage/modern day spin off of the actual cinderella story. It has events that relate to the real story like the ipod being the shoe or the famous singer being the prince and so on. It also followed the rules of the original story such as the undermined girl gets the famous boy and the step sisters are mean to her and she was always meant to be the maid and do all the chores and dirty work. Mary shows that she is fearless throughout the movie because she is always doing stuff she knows she is not supposed to be doing like sneaking out to go to the ball instead of cleaning her step mom's room. She also tend to be very compassionate to others because she cared so much about her best friend Tammy and Joey. She was also very brave for standing up to her step mom and sister's in the end and also being able to dance in front of not only her peers but a famous dancer and singer. The point of view is in first person. They all talk for themselves. We expected this movie to be more geared towards people our age, which it is, and also to be more modern. This movie's aesthetic appeal would have to be the perfect couple who ends up being together in the end.

The Story of Disney's Cinderella

Cinderella is a beautiful girl who has two evil stepsisters and a stepmother. She always had to do all of the chores and dirty work. Her two stepsisters got invited to the prince's ball but cinderella was not allowed to go because her stepmother said so. She made a wish that she could go to the ball, so her fairy godmother showed up and turned her dirty outfit into a beautiful dress with diamonds and her hair into curls. The golden pumpkin turned into a coach and the mice into coachmen. But, the magic expires at midnight, so cinderella must return home by then. When cinderella ran out of the palace, her glass slipper fell off. The prince searched for the girl in the glass slipper. He eventually found that it fit cinderella, so the prince asked to marry her. They got married and had a beautiful wedding, and even the evil sisters and mother were invited. The tone of the story would be enthusiastic because the author used a lot of exclamation points and made it really exciting when cinderella got to go to the ball and get married. I would also say formal because he used very formal language. Cinderella was very giving. She always did what her mother and sisters told her to, even though they always stepped on her. She is forgiving because she ended up inviting her sister and mother to her wedding with the prince. She was also very excited when she finally got to go to the ball. The story is in third person because the narrator leads us through the story. He uses phrases like "Cinderella sat down" and "He would not dance with anyone else". The moral of the story would be that life is not fair sometimes but if you work hard enough, you can get to where you want to be in life.

Perrault Version

In the beginning of the story, the tone is pessimistic because the author uses negative words to describe everything. Like the way he described Cinderella as the poor girl and cinder wench. Cinderella lived with her father who had just been married to a new lady with two wicked step daughters. They were all mean to Cinderella making her do all of the chores around the house. Cinderella could not tell her father because he would just yell at her due to the fact that his new wife was very controlling. When the word of the festival being held by the king came around all of the sisters were ecstatic but Cinderella knew she would not be able to go. So she helped her step-sisters prepare for the event. Even though they made snarky comments to Cinderella the entire time, she continued on helping at the best of her ability. When everyone left for the party Cinderella started to cry and confide in her godmother. Her godmother then waved her wand and Cinderella was dressed in a beautiful gown and had had horses and a carriage to bring her. When she arrived she was greeted by the price because she was so beautiful. They same thing happened the next night but she lost track of time and had to hurry out of there because she turned back to normal at midnight. In this hurry she lost one of her glass slippers. This caused a search for her when no one else was left she tried it on as a joke and the shoe fit. Her and the prince married within a few days and she provided housing for her step-sisters despite how mean they were to her. Towards the end of the story, the tone would be loving because the author uses the words beautiful, lovely, and soft to portray Cinderella. Cinderella is a person who is always kind to others no matter what this can be seen when she helps her step-sisters prepare for the party, and they are extremely mean to her but she takes it like a woman and fixes them up her best. The story is told through a narrator’s point of view. This can be seen when words such as she are used.
