- make sure the punch has a sharp point

- check that the centre punch is straight and not bent

-if the centre punch is damaged report and show it to the technician to avoid people injuring themselves if they were to use it next

You would check to see if the divider is sharp enough to scratch into the necessary material lightly. Also if the material threads are not damaged and the divider can still move, so it can be operated for the marking out job.

The tool can be used for to create a diameter for presumably a pitch circle diameter or any diameter in general. But it can also be used to create a radius in a material.

make sure it is zeroed and the wheel turns easily .

if the height gauge is not on zero press the zero or reset button

Check to see if the scriber is sharp enough to do its job correctly, if the tool is not sharp enough then re-grind any blunt ends on the scriber.

Check for damage and make sure the point is not blunt

Double check the table for an uneven finish also make sure the table hasn't got a pitted finish would could effect marking out.

check that the angle is 90 degrees

Check for damage, make sure its in a good condition before use, ensure the movement of the head is good and freely moves, check the levels are correct.

Check for visual wear to the hammer, if the hammer head has come lose.

People that choke the hammer put preasure on the head and it makes it come lose.
