Frank tells a story of him being Yaqui and learned that your journey as a youngster begins when you talk to the Elderly people. Elderly people were seen as mentors and people you go to for advice and safety as teamwork and communication were important to oneself. Frank talks about respecting the hands that feed you (a flip on don't bite the hands that feed you) as those people help your well-being become who you are. Frank gives an example of how elderly people paved the road that the youth walk on and those will after, but that road wouldn't be there without them, so you should respect those who were there before you are they set the norms of what society should be. In conclusion, Frank explains that nothing is impossible unless you try. If you don't try, the thing you are reaching towards is impossible. Recently, he has become a grandfather as his daughter is pregnant.

Life Lessons, Advice, and Wisdom to Give

A life lesson that should be told more often that he touches on is the focus on an individual's mental and physical health. Mental health is the major focus as it is seen as important as physical health. In order to be true to others around you, you need to focus on the mental health and self-love as the basic norms of this have vanished in his eyes.
One piece of advice he gave me is to communicate my feelings more and listen. He gave me a scenario where my dad buys a car part and fixs my car or I buy the car part and ask my Dad to fix the car together. I chose the second option, but the lesson was teamwork is important.
The wisdom he gave me is that wisdom is traditional as it was given to elderly people and given to their children as those children passed it to their children and so on. Wisdom shouldn't be taken for granted and looked as useful knowledge for future lessons.

Views on Society

This subject was a long one as it shows that he had lots of views on it, but nowhere to put them. He sees society as unbalanced and needs to be restored. Society in the past was more about teamwork, communication, and a safe spot to unleash your feelings, but with power and greed taking hold of society, people forget these basic norms. He talks about how the news shared stories that bring both sides of the story to view, but now they only provide one side of that news due to biased viewpoints. He tells me that there will be problems in our lives, but not to put them back and focus on fixing them as they can define who you are as an individual and human being. Frank also talks about welcoming everybody no matter what as they can be very helpful and don't judge if they differ from you, but ask questions to understand.

Thoughts on Culture and Changes of Their Lifetime

The world used to be a better place for yourself and your children. If you look at where we lived, there are 6-foot fences and locked doors each night because you don't know who can show up and hurt or even kill you. You can walk across the road without worrying about your well-being or say something hurtful to someone without endangering yourself now. Back then, there was communication with each other and more safety to each other. They knew how to communicate and see each other's viewpoints without causing violence to one another. As of now, there is none of that. Frank also explained that you need a foundation and had me start this as primary as it is important to have a settled place to start. He explains that it can be a church whether you are religious or not as it is a place of peace for you. He explains that this culture was very important for their family and people around them, but others as well, and needs to be adopted in the present and possibly the future as well. He also explains that communication is important because humans are social creatures. We need to stop talking to people those the internet and through the computer/phone and talk to them in person as these traits are important to understand the person's motivation and personality. He ends his thoughts by saying that people don't understand the basic norms anymore such as please and thank you. There isn't a sense of control over people's children and the world is been over run by greed and outside influences that these children shouldn't learn from.

Life Events that Affected their Life

Frank talks about how people shouldn't take their lives as a joke when it comes to drinking, smoking, doing drugs, and not finding a solution for this. Frank had a brother who shot himself in the head because he couldn't find a solution to his problem. Suicide was seen as a way out in a sense. Frank says he sees my father as his brother because of their drinking problem and urges caution against this because he sees lots of his brother in my father. He talks about learning the steps before continuing as you can't move forward until you learn and know the previous step.
He also talks about being in law enforcement and how TPD needs to switch the norms of the Police act with citizens. He explains that when he is at work and patroling around and sees a car broken down, he helps out. For example, he says he will pull behind the car, and run the license plate to make sure it isn't stolen and if it isn't, he will help them. He either calls a tow truck to help them get home or to work or he will have them sit in the truck with the air-conditioning as it's hot outside and fix the car (tire, engine, window, etc.). He says he does this because police officers need to give back to the community and he sees this as a way to help his community. He also explains that he talks to the citizens as people rather than using force and yelling (Sir you have a warrant for your arrest and will be detained and processed at the police station rather than Turn around stay quiet until I say so example).

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

I will take this final section as a way of reflection. I learned the process of wisdom and culture and saw those of my neighbor Frank's eyes and saw the different world that was once out there. These norms that were used by them and were seen as important aren't anymore and the viewpoints of certain subjects are different now. As I learn that the norms of thank you and please is used now and how basic communication skills aren't either, I learn that I should talk that mantle and share how these norms should always be adopted from the past, into the present, and into the future. This was a great learning experience and wish there was other ways to share how elderly people shouldn't be taken for granted, but looked at like knowledge people as they paved this road that you and I walk or run on and we should keep their values up and high.
In conclusion, listening is a powerful tool to use and knowledge is helpful as well, but only if those things is use correctly (controlled) and wisely.
