FAITH IN THE DIVINE BOOKS, THE DAY OF JUDGMENT AND DIVINE DECREE (QADA' AND QADAR)

Faith in Islam is built upon six fundamental beliefs like i had said in previous week's summary, among which belief in divine books, the Day of Judgment, and Qada’ & Qadar plays a crucial role. These beliefs shape a Muslim’s understanding of life, destiny, and accountability in the Hereafter. In this usrah, I learned about their significance and how they impact a Muslim’s daily life.

1. Belief in Divine Books (Kutubullah)

Allah revealed scriptures to His prophets as guidance for humanity.

The main divine books are the Torah (revealed to Musa AS), the Psalms (Zabur, revealed to Dawud AS), the Gospel (Injil, revealed to Isa AS), and the Quran (revealed to Prophet Muhammad PBUH).

The Quran is the final and preserved revelation, as Allah states: "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian." (Surah Al-Hijr: 9)

2. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah)

The Day of Judgment is when all humans will be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds.

Every soul will be judged fairly, and deeds will be weighed on the scales of justice.

The Quran states: "So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it." (Surah Az-Zalzalah: 7-8)

3. Belief in Qada’ and Qadar (Divine Decree and Destiny)

Qada’ (Divine Decree) refers to Allah’s eternal knowledge and plan for all things.

Qadar (Destiny) means that everything happens according to Allah’s will, but humans have free will in making choices.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector. And upon Allah let the believers rely.

" (Surah At-Tawbah: 51)

Islam is built upon five fundamental pillars that serve as the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice. These pillars guide every Muslim in their spiritual journey and daily life. In this usrah, I learned about the significance of these pillars and how they shape a believer's connection with Allah (SWT) and society.

1. Shahada (Declaration of Faith)

The Shahada is the testimony that "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger."

It is the core belief that defines a Muslim and must be sincerely affirmed with conviction.

This declaration reflects the oneness of Allah (Tawhid) and the finality of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as His messenger.

2. Salah (Prayer)

Muslims are obligated to perform five daily prayers: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha.

Prayer is a direct link between a believer and Allah, reinforcing discipline, mindfulness, and gratitude.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The first deed for which a person will be called to account on the Day of Judgment will be their prayer." (Tirmidhi)

3. Zakat (Charity)

Zakat is the act of giving a portion (2.5%) of one's wealth to those in need.

It purifies wealth, promotes social justice, and reduces inequality within the Muslim community.

The Quran states: "And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah." (Surah Al-Baqarah: 110)

4. Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan)

Muslims fast from dawn to sunset during the month of Ramadan, refraining from food, drink, and other invalidators.

Fasting cultivates self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and spiritual purification.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, all his past sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari & Muslim)

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca)

Hajj is an obligatory pilgrimage for those who are physically and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime.

It symbolizes unity, equality, and submission to Allah as millions of Muslims gather in Mecca.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit any obscenity or wrongdoing will return as sinless as a newborn." (Bukhari & Muslim)

ADAB IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

Seeking knowledge is a fundamental duty in Islam. It is emphasized in the Quran and Hadith that a person should seek knowledge with sincerity, humility, and proper etiquette. In this usrah, I learned about the importance of adab in seeking knowledge and how it brings blessings in life.

1. Sincerity (Ikhlas)

Seeking knowledge should be solely for the sake of Allah (SWT) and not for fame, wealth, or worldly gains.

As mentioned in the Hadith: "Whoever seeks knowledge to compete with the scholars, to argue with the foolish, or to attract people's attention, Allah will admit him into the Hellfire." (Ibn Majah)

2. Respect for Teachers and Scholars

Students should honor and respect their teachers by listening attentively, not interrupting, and valuing their guidance.

Imam Shafi’i once said: "I used to turn the pages of my book so gently in front of my teacher out of respect, so that he wouldn’t hear the sound."

3. Consistency and Patience in Learning

Seeking knowledge is a lifelong journey that requires effort and patience.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The best deeds are those that are done consistently, even if they are small." (Bukhari & Muslim)

4. Practicing and Spreading Knowledge

Knowledge should not only be learned but also practiced and shared with others.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Convey from me, even if it is one verse." (Bukhari)

5. Avoiding Arrogance and Being Humble

A true seeker of knowledge remains humble and acknowledges that knowledge ultimately belongs to Allah (SWT).

The Quran states: "And above every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing." (Surah Yusuf: 76)

6. Making Du’a for Knowledge

It is important to continuously make du’a for beneficial knowledge.

A recommended supplication: "O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, and teach me what will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge." (Tirmidhi)

It reminded me of many aspects of Islam that I had overlooked or forgotten, and it also taught me new things that helped strengthen my faith and understanding.

The sharing sessions have encouraged me to reflect deeply on my relationship with Allah and to strive to become a better Muslim and Mukmin, inside and out. With the various tasks and responsibilities given, I learned to be more disciplined, trustworthy (amanah), and responsible in carrying out my duties.

I am sincerely grateful to our naqib, Br.

As for suggestions for improvement, I believe that the usrah sessions could be even more impactful with the addition of more interactive elements such as group discussions or simple, light-hearted activities to keep the environment engaging and dynamic. Besides that, maintaining consistent time management — starting and ending the sessions punctually — would help participants stay more focused and better manage their other responsibilities.

I also think that allowing more space for open sharing among the members could create a stronger sense of brotherhood and emotional connection within the group. Introducing a wider range of topics that touch on current issues faced by students or youth today would make the discussions feel more relevant and practical. It would also be helpful if each session concluded with a simple action plan or takeaway to apply in daily life, so that the lessons don’t just remain theoretical.
