New Year's Eve Celebration in El Dorado Meta

Holidays and celebrations are very important and representative traditions in Colombia, even more so in the towns and villages.

December is a time of year longed for by all Colombians, because during this time a great number of parties, festivals, and traditional, family and patron saint celebrations take place. In large cities and capitals such as Bogota or Medellin, December celebrations or specifically on December 24 and 31 are lived with the family, and if there are parties or celebrations, they are usually held inside the home.

The end of the year 2021 was very special for me, as it was the first "normal" one after the pandemic and I was very excited to spend it in a place outside of Bogota.

We decided then, my family and I moved to a small town in the department of Meta, called El Dorado, there is the tradition some years ago to celebrate the "old year" on December 31 from very early in the morning with caravans, games, cornstarch, music and many activities in which everyone participates, locals, tourists, children and adults, it is wonderful.

From about 9 am we went out to celebrate in the caravan, from the beginning the music, the cornstarch, the joy of the people and the atmosphere in general made it one of the best New Year's celebrations of my life.

I chose it because I remember how nice it was there, especially in the pool. Well, it all starts on January 3, 2016, I was on vacation from school, Girardit is my grandmother's homeland on my mom's side. We got up on January 3 at 5:30 a.m. to be able to take the transmilenio to get to the terminal. After arriving there, we headed to the fleet. I remember as if it had been yesterday, my mom, my grandmother, and I were standing in line to get on the fleet, I almost stayed because I was in the bathroom. After leaving the bathroom I ran towards the fleet, I arrived and my grandmother sat next to me. After two or three hours of travel (I don't remember very well) we arrived at Girardot; is very pretty. We arrived at my grandmother's aunt and we stayed there. We had been thinking about staying two days but it turned out to be one day because my grandmother's tension went up and we didn't return to Bogota, but before that my mother and I went with my grandmother's niece. My grandmother's aunt went to the pool because we wanted to be in the pool because of how hot it was. The next day we got up to have some delicious tamales for breakfast, one hundred percent recommended, after breakfast we visited my great-great-grandmother and that's where my grandmother's tension went up and that's where my adventure ends

My adventure in Santa Marta

I chose an adventure that I experienced in July Two thousand and twenty one (2021) when I went to visit one of my uncles and cousins in Santa Marta, it was the first time I had visited the sea and I was very moved. We went with my uncle and my cousins to a beach called Inca Inca. I had mixed feelings, but was very happy to meet the sea.

We were in the water for a while when I started to feel some pain in one of my legs, I came out of the sea and it itched a lot but I didn't see anything unusual, so I decided to go back to the water, but the pain was intense. When I got out of the water I began to feel burning, itching and my leg was numb, when I checked it it had a mark and I felt fear of some fatigue and tachycardia.

We immediately went to the nearest medical center, where they gave me painkillers and the result was that a kind of jellyfish that they call “bad water” had stung me on the leg.

It was definitely an adventure to live this experience the first day I visited the sea, but I remember it with great grace and as something beautiful after all.
