Dead bodies, flies and rats all spread diseases, and trench foot was common from standing in mud and water and not drying off.

Soldiers try to give them serious wounds to one self in order to be sent which include breathing gas,shot to body part, chewing cordite, sleeping in wetness, and raising a body part above treanch level hoping to get wounded enough to get sent home.

Inside the trenches, they joke about the war that was happening that could be endless and enlisting for it for a certain amount of time in it.

When they wrote letters to family members or loved one it contained very little information about the trench's real conditions as they were checked over by officers to make sure it did not contain any information that could help the enemy.

Drinking water was carried by hand in a canteen which was for the whole day to share and if it was cut off they needed to drink water from the pool of water where it had rained

Penalties was serving when someone did not filled their duty like taking their eyes away from no man's land and the punishment could go the far as death.

Rats

Rats and mice would run rampant through the trenches with the dead bodies all around

Bugs

Bugs would fly around biting the soldiers and feasting off of the bodies, leading to diseases spreading
